    The reserve team is:

    ---------Cracknell
    East Bennett Bradley Townsend
    McCaffrey Harper Holohan Emerton
    ------Margetts Dillon

So much for Dillon not getting a deal, it seems he's still on trial.

We went 3-0 down in the first half, Cracknell got sent off for handling outside of the area, over the top decision, he's gutted, even the home fans applauded him off(Our right back is now in goal). We've pulled one back and it's half time, but it seems that Barmby and Watkiss have offered to meet the ref in the car park after the game....

All thanks to Phil Buckingham on Twitter.

Even the Hartlepool match report says it was a very contentious red, I hope Barmby did give the ref a dry slap.

Wasn't there a reserve goalkeeper on the bench? Anyway, Hartlepool cheated, they had loads of first team players in their squad. ;)

It appears that we get more from Buckingham on Twitter than we do in the HDM. I asked about margetts a few days ago but did not get a response. He played for the juniors and reserves last season and scored a few goals. Apart from that don´t know much about him.

There is a thread on this board about City and Reserves. I think it just goes to prove just what an absolute waste of time it all is. If you cant get into a decent reserve league where players will get experience and learn, then why bother.

If its a reserves game then why wasnt Adestrolla, Fryatt, Pusic, Evans playing in it? We always here managers saying about a player not being match fit. Well how are they ever going to be if they dont play in the reserves. Surely Fryatt should have played, hopefully banged in 3 or 4 goals and be pushing for Saturday? As a 36 year old Ade definitely needs games to get match fit, very few older players do full training. How is Pusic going to push for a first team place?

We're never going to risk the likes of Fryatt and Evans playing with a load of kids in a midweek game at Hartlepool, they'll be preparing for Saturday with the rest of the first team squad. I assume Pusic would have been played if he was considered fit enough, but he's been out for weeks and has only just resumed training.

Lammie, we are going to disagree on this point (for a change!). Surely its got to be worth the risk giving the bench players a run out in a game like this. I mean, apparently 'Pool played a few first teamers so whats wrong with it. I accept that there is always a possibility of injury but you have been around long enough to remember the North Regional league (i think!) and we always played first teamers in that competition to give them much needed competitive football. We also brought in a couple of youngsters to give them the experience of playing with/against senior players. The point was made a couple of posts ago, if Fryatt had played and banged in a couple of goals what a great kick that would have given his confidence in readiness for a return to first team action.

I wouldn't necessarily argue with any of that and I think it's disappointing that the reserve league is not what it was, but it doesn't change the fact that it's no longer normal to play first teamers in the reserves, unless they're returning from injury and they need match time. Rightly, or wrongly, it's just the way it is now.

cant argue with that mate, but it doesnt make a lot of sense to me, I mean, why have a reserve side at all if that is the policy now?

What if we played Fryatt and he got injured? fans would be saying why on earth have we risked one of our first team in a nothing game

I had a similar conversation with a mate of mine, who's son used to play in the same team as my lad in the Hull & East Riding U9's several years ago. His lad was a bit tasty, well above the standard of most of the other lads and he was scouted by City, TWS, Barnsley and the Wendies. He went for trials at all the clubs and couldn't believe the difference in the quality of the opposition, for us he had a trial against Darlington, for Barnsley, he had a trial against Man United. When your academy can't compete with Barnsley, then you really are ****ed.

Though I did tell him. that whatever the opposition, if he didn't let his lad go to City, I'd never speak to him again(That was at the Chesterfield pre-season, so I think we're in with half a chance).

I'd feel pretty **** if I was Harps right now. Look at that line up, he's the only player past the age of 20 (I think)
