For me this is the price of changing managers. I do not expect him to know all the foibles of every player, it's going to be a learning curve. No matter how big his reputation or how large his pay it does not follow that he has encyclopedic knowledge of every player in the PL. Plus what you see and what he see are maybe quite different. I do not have a view on Mourinho I am waiting to see how it pans out. You may turn out to be right but for me it's too early to judge.
Mourinho has so far set up Spurs in a way which has highlighted both strengths and weaknesses. To begin with, at least, the team looked potent going forward and Alli was revitalised. Central midfield has looked poor, especially defensively and there are no full backs. Do you not think he might be looking to identify to Levy where money needs to be spent so he can draw up his list of transfer targets? I think everyone knows that the current playing squad can't be manipulated in a way that will suddenly take Spurs back to the level of 2-3 years ago. Dembele still needs replacing; Eriksen probably will do too. There are no full backs. The central defenders are past their past (apart from Davidson Sanchez who needs to find a suitable partner to improve his development). Depending upon who is recruited, a style of play and a formation needs to be established. Knowing Mourinho, it will be based around being strong defensively. I'm sure Mourinho has identified the problems - the main issues are whether he is still up to resolving them and whether Levy will back him with the funds he will inevitably ask for to bring in players.
Like I said mate my issues with him are more to do with his history and my takr on it ...I will support the team when I can go to games as I did under AVB but can not shake the fear I have about him.
That’s pretty much it. The problems are easy to see. We have no base. No DM worth the name, no quality full backs, and a central defense that is past its best and too slow. Without a solid base it means we have to score minimum 2-3 goals to have a chance of winning any game because we’re sure as **** gonna concede at least one,
I am not enjoying Spurs football at the moment but we have just changed managers because the board weren't either. I think it was too hasty but then I don't have the responsibility of running this multi million £ business and that can affect you decisions in a profound way. I am not here to defend ENIC but I do think it's laughable to suggest they are not interested in improving the Spurs team. Whether they are making the right decisions only time will tell but the facts of the last 5 years and more are there. There has been an improvement in Spurs position and a huge improvement in Spurs status so they have made some good decisions. Picking managers is always a lottery as anyone who follows pro football must realise. Whether Jose is a success or a failure for me remains to be seen, but to judge him in such a short time and over a frantic period where lots of top teams have produced patchy results is too soon for me. For sure there have been mistakes made over the ENIC years especially in choosing managers and that to me points to a mistake here in not allowing Pochettino time to sort out his mess, but people are paid enormous salarys and instant results are expected.so it's never a surprise when the axe falls. Levy has to answer to the owner and the board not the fans as is the case with all large companies The fans are the end users and the board have to try to please them and part of that is to employ a manager to speak to the fans and please them it's only on rare occasions when Levy speaks to the fans but if this latest move fails we can expect one of these occasions.
If he is, he'd be best advised not to do so by continuing to pick unbalanced teams, as he currently is. He's not at Chelsea or United any more and failing to qualify for the CL, or even the EL, is going to severely deplete any transfer spend he will have in the summer. He's really not a very good fit for this club and I'd be amazed if it works, given how it's currently playing out.
Our team's attitude lately is somewhat like the French Army of 1939/40. But their big wigs in charge helped not one bit.Screwed up their army like ours have done to our team. There's a moral there somewhere...…..!
Your argument makes perfect sense BEFORE we had the 60,000 seat stadium. We have moved up a level, a move the board designed and carried out. This is to improve the revenue and put Spurs closer to parity with Arsenal & Liverpool. They will be aware that they need to spend more to pull the players needed to take Spurs upward. They have already increased their wage structure to keep players like Kane they have recently broken their transfer record in signing DNombele (his injury record is becoming a major worry, and shows how precarious the transfer business is) I would expect them to be looking to spend on the squad. All of which suggests that Mourinho COULD be the fit they were looking for.
In all honesty, would you say Jose is happy with any of our players at the moment? Because, for the life of me,players today earning all that money.....can have multipul games where they don't show up. The one game I will always remember as one of those games, was the CL Final. How could they not perform for "the game of their life?"
Two simple reasons i.) Sissoko having to devote so much time to babysitting Aurier ii.) Eriksen not being a central midfielder...which is problematic when he plays in central midfield only to not be anywhere near central midfield for the whole bloody game
Whilst increased incomes from the stadium will increase our net spend from £0, which it was for about a decade or more, until last summer. If we lose £50-£100m of European competition money, it will have a significant effect on our spending, have no doubt about that. We're stll owned by ENIC and run by Mr Micawber............errr, Daniel Levy. "Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen [pounds] nineteen [shillings] and six [pence], result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery."
...and would playing a three man midfield, with one player detailed to play centrally and not **** off upfield on a whim, have improved matters, sir?
Depends A diamond wouldn't, as it would expose our fullbacks while also bringing attention to how we don't actually have two first team strikers so have to play a winger there (and a Christmas tree would risk similar, even though it would improve attacking options) On the other hand, a 433 would potentially have the wings covered, although the obvious issue is we'd need Dele as he'd have to either play in centre midfield or as a winger...although a spot through the middle has opened up
Well I guess that's one advantage of having Maureen as manager. If it was Poch, he'd be handed a 6-match stadium ban and made to do community service in Homs.
4-3-3, you say? I wonder why we're not utilising it? I guess that 3-2-5 system we're playing must be working too well?
At the very least a midfield v is what we should use, which would look something like this Son..............................Lo Celso/Lucas Ndombele.....Sissoko/Winks Dier
Until we get our defence sorted, it's the only way to stem the deluge of goals conceded. I'd look at playing Sissoko or Lo Celso on the right of a three. If we have, to pick Sissoko (I meant Aurier but I've reached 'that age') I'd make sure that he understood that defending was his primary duty (some chance!) and play Sissoko with him. If Foyth played right back, you could pair him with Lo Celso. On the left, it's Ndombele with Jan/Ben Davies (if he ever gets fit) and Winks with Sessegnon. If Eric Dier had less running to manage, he'd probably do okay in the middle or Skippy's a possible....well, under any other manager. It's not perfect but I cannot see how playing that way, we could be as open as we are now. We might actually be a bit more creative and play hoof ball slightly less than we have been.
In Kane's absence we'll need Sonny up front. These are our options at the moment in midfield/attack. Lucas/Alli.......Son/Parrott......Lo Celso/Lamela Winks/Ndombele.....Eriksen/Sissoko Dier/Skipp
Your bit in bold reflects the FFP regulations quite well. Levy knows better than anyone how important it is to get CL football. However I think he will take a lot of convincing that spending a lot in January will make much difference to the probability of is getting top 4. I don't recall any January signing we or anyone else made making much difference that season. If we can get a long term target then we should.
