"Murray was held in as much disdain as donald is now." Absolute nonsense. Despite his limitations, and bad decisions, Bob was a Sunderland supporter and had the club at heart. Every Sunderland supporter recognises that no matter how grudgingly. To compare him with some unconnected 'here today gone tomorrow' bloke from the south is idiotic. Murray left a legacy that should've been built on ... .... Donald's legacy is the worst position in our history, a few plastic seats and a handful of daft tweets. Stupid comparison.
Do you like anyone? He was only 60 when he sold up. Hardly doddery. That Gold fella at West Ham is 83, 10 years older than Bob, and know one gives a **** about his age.
Afraid that, in the end, it's the limitations and bad decisions that count. Being a Supporter cuts him some slack but it's more important for us to have competence at the top
I dislike Ashley and he's certainly no fan of us but I'll grant him that he is very much competent! Football has things in common with other businesses and things that are very different, it is a knack that can be learnt though and the shame with Donald is that if you had gone up I think he probably would have worked out over the years as more than just a chancer. The fact that you did not is likely to be his legacy.
Haway man, that's a little too easy to say. In the last few months we've had two new directors appointed, one of the original buyers leave, had 4 billionaires become directly involved in the club, had millions invested and the major shareholder declare that he wants out as soon as possible. I could go on but it would just be stating the obvious. Just because people aren't continually making statements it doesn't mean nothing's happening. The club will definitely be taken over and my hope is that it's FPP, the company created and registered at the SOL. A company that has already spent considerable sums on due diligence, feasibility studies, advisors, etc. They're the only ones who can make a quick resolution ... ... if it's not we could see this drag on until next season which would be horrific. FPP, like the supporters, have a vested interest in making sure that doesn't happen.
fpp have been taking over from day one imo they are just getting everything spot on before it happens
Limitations and bad decisions like leaving an outdated 21,000 capacity Roker Park for a brand new 49,000 capacity stadium (which actually cost us nowt as the buiders, Ballast Wilsher I think, went bust). Bad decisions like appointing Peter Reid as manager resulting in our only 2 top league finishes above halfway since the 1950's? Bob Murray's only problem was merely being a multi millionaire when it began to require billionaire status to own a Premier league club.
I spoke to Bob about his time there, and he said he only stepped in when no one else was interested in buying/running the club. I believe him.
Because how can we pay money to a company that does not exist anymore. I worked on the building of the Hilton and The Beacon of Light and a Tolent site manager told me.
Can you hear that noise, it's the sound of thousands of Sunderland fans drumming their fingers on a table...waiting for an announcement of a sale to the Dell boys or a super duper striker inbound
Read an article where Bob was commenting on our current plight, he seemed upset and angry at our current plight.
Normally the builders would be paid on monthly certificates certified by the client QS so if the building was complete only the retentions to cover defects would be outstanding and the administrators would chase up those payments when due to pay creditors. If the building hadn't been completed then payments woud have been paid up to date of liquidation and another builder would have been paid to complete the work. Obviously I don't know the detail of that individual contract but it is highly unlikely that a builder would take on that size contract without interim payments.
I can't see how we paid nowt for the ground... I'd have imagined that there would have been 30, 60 or 90 day payment terms on invoices and there would have been plenty of payments made prior to BW going bust. There's no chance a job like the SOL would have been paid only upon completion. At best I think we'll have saved a nice chunk of money (which all the BW sub contractors would have suffered for).
