Dave Mr Arsenal Hull City will never play in the top flight Gibbins. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Yes yes I used to friendly with Dave Boothferry estate and all that, used to go To City with him before Radio Humberside then I see him all dressed up with Grimsby Town gear , that when Grimsby was flying high. Unfirgiveable
Anyone know what actually became of David Gibbons? A well over-used term now, but he was very 'Partridge' - a right Madeley. I wasn't living in the area when he left, last I really recall of him at all was being outside the ground during a game with a Tigers 2000 protest, and Angie Rowe saying that he's on RH now deriding the protest, saying he can't hear us - and the like. Can't remember the game exactly, but was it Fulham at home? I remember being passed a piece of paper saying something like 'at the signal that everyone will recognise, please leave the ground in protest' - or something similar. It might be conflating two different protests here but regardless, it was a mightily **** time for following City.
The last quarter of the last century were by and large **** for our club, we had about 7 good years in the 80s, the rest of time it was managed decline. As well as a series of shocking owners, we had the rise of RL to contend with aided and abetted by the like of John Fieldhouse and the HDM, and various bozos at Mudbank. We also had quislings like Calam, ushered in by the likes of Fish. We were fighting on all fronts in our own city to maintain our rightful role of the region's flagbearers in the world's number one sport. But it was a long and strength-sapping war, and we lost the battles of the 80s and 90s, overwhelmed by idiots in strategically important roles in our own club and the media. It is my belief that so many of the cabbages who litter our city, and indeed region, were the result of this sustained retreat by City in the battle for the public's affections. Now these cabbages have bred and their spawn have been groomed to follow in Dad's lardy footsteps. This is the legacy of our defeat in the last century.. When people rubbish Burnsy and the HDM's reporting of City, they would do well to remember how it was in the bad old days.
Quite. Chief Wiggum blowing like a tug halfway up the old West stand Staircase at Fer ark was sometimes the highlight of the afternoon.
The early to mid 90s took its toll on me, it was one step forward and two back, you could never see a light at the end of the tunnel. Wasn't the local eggchasers on a downward spiral also?
Hellfire. Seems like you're right. Just skimmed his LinkedIn and saw this on his 'Experience' section: "Commercial Manager at Scarborough Football Club 1986-87, working closely with manager Neil Warnock, who took Cardiff City to the Premier League in 2017/18 - his eighth promotion" Is it like he somehow shares, or deserves kudos for Warnock's success since the mid 80s, or is it the Motsonesque fact machine type he was/is, always relaying standalone factoids for the receiver.
There are a load of applicable social and political theories that could be offered up here, but to keep it concise, it's a multi multi faceted problem and they're largely idiots by design. One of the great shames in all of this is the Hull identity. The proud indentity that other similarish post-industrial areas have. It is there somewhere. I know it is. But what is it? What happened to it/with it, who does have it and why don't we all have it and shout it loud?
Does Dave Gibbons have a brother called Steve who fronted a rock n roll band? Its not a very common name is it?
He was talking them up on the quest EFL show. Will be a great appointment for them, but make no mistake, seeing them in 20th position makes my heart soar like eagle.
