They would be available more often than some we have signed.

Banks said after Waggy had scored against him in the defeat at Stoke tolling the 2 he scored past him at BP that he was a player he really wouldn’t want to face too often. Waggy did well against whatever Division One clubs we came up against in the Cup. Modern training methods would have made those players fitter than they were in those days. The better pitches, boots etc now would have helped. Of course it is impossible to say.

It's a different sport isn't it. Majority of players are spotted at 8 years old nowadays, so any who do 'make it' it's a testimony of a lot of things other than just ability.
We probably agree he may have done ok in division one, but it was the best of Britain, a far cry from playing in a league against the best players in the world. How many of premier league teams don't even have English players in their squad as they aren't good enough?

He may be a good penalty stopper but was often beaten from range especially to his left

Was tony Norman in goal when we conceded 71 goal in 80/81?? And we’re relegated to the fourth division?

Or we had a midfield that kept losing possession and a poor defence? Though that shouldn’t have been the case. Looking at the players we had then it was almost an act of genius to get them relegated. Mutrie, Edwards, Gareth Roberts, McClaren, Whitehurst, Swann, Dale Roberts, Haigh...I was among the 2,059 at BP for our last game of the season against Newport County. I think that was the lowest crowd we had ever had for a league game at the time. Once saw a list in the 1980s in the HDM of City’s 10 lowest league crowds and realised I had been in 9 of them, (along with quite a few of our circle back then) the one missing was a Newport game before I had started going. A bit different now due to a couple of games I didn’t see during the Dolan years when working shifts means I have only seen 7 of the 10 lowest crowds.

If Tom and Jake had been able to add Ash’s will to win and passion to their armoury they’d have been truly world class players.

    Give over.

We would have won that day if Alex B had been able to stay on.

I think that video actually proves my point, he was flat footed and didn’t get off the ground. He should have got a lot more hand on it and it wasn’t in the top corner. That’s how I see it anyway.

Also you mean Alex B who needlessly gave away that free kick? Tbf he was having a good game other than that.

A centimetre from tipping it onto or over the bar against a free kick from a Spanish international and that makes him a dodgy keeper ?.

De Gea had made 3 or4 worse errors already this season.

So Cazorla being a Spanish international means he’s entitled to score? I was illustrating one example of a perceived weakness of McGregor. Everyone can draw their own conclusions.

McGregor is a very good goalkeeper. Our best ever? hmmmm not so sure. I’d put Norman and Wealands up there too. Wealands won the 2nd division and then played in the then 1st division with Birmingham, then signed for Man Utd as Bailey’s cover. Not a bad resume.

I liked Tony Norman but just didn't face the same quality of players as McGregor so very hard to compare
