That’s actually a good question. The manager always had the final say I believe, but Brands put forward players who he wanted the club to buy. The ‘model’ was supposedly sub 25 if spending big money.
I never asserted anything. You can never go back and take the other choice - in anything - so we'll never know but it's hard to see any other manager fitting in the way Klopp has.
Yep you defo have a world class manager there. I have never hid from the fact I want Everton to do well I obviously want us above you but defo want you second I have thought that you have brought good people in every time but this one seems perfect. Think you building some momentum around the club too. Could be a good few years for your boys Hopefully for us too It’s what happens if this doesn’t work that intrigues me - I can’t say bothers but can’t think of right wording. I think if Ancellotti doesn’t succeed the club will need to try and assess where it is going wrong - next season will be massive for you guys.
How many 'right" managers has Moshiri identified so far though. Apart from fat Sam who was there for one specific purpose, Moshiri has thought every single choice he's made has been just what you need and you've got worse and worse. If and maybe when this goes wrong he has nowhere left to go. You can still get relegated. Ancelotti is a top drawer manager but he's got a reputation in European Cup his league titles are very few and far between considering the talented sides he's had.
You did, you created a narrative around the decision process they used to discount Ancelotti, that unless you’re a mate of Henry isn’t a fact. You also said definitively that Ancelotti wasn’t the right fit. All we know definitively, is that Klopp has done a great job.
We’ve finished 7th, 8th and 8th in his 3 full seasons, after finishing 11th in the 2 preceding seasons. Worse and worse and relegation though, yeah ok. League titles in 4 different countries and 15 major pots, he’s defo the wrong choice.
I think managers and clubs need to fit (see Woy and Liverpool, Moyes and Man Utd, etc) but I agree with you when it comes to Ancelotti at Everton or Arsenal; was just interested by your comment as it sounded like you thought they were on par. IMO, so long as they continue to provide the same level of funds as in recent seasons, Everton is the better job. Everton is a new project that needs building up, you've not won things or been on top for a long time so any incoming manager would (should) be given time to do just that. Arsenal comes with a lot of prima-donnas and dead wood whilst carrying high expectations. Emery (and all recent Man Utd managers) is great example of what can happen on clubs in a downward spiral
Mourinho at Man Utd: recently sacked manager with loads of trophies goes for huge wages to a club willing to spend loads of money on players but fundamentally **** squad and does no better than a random ex player could manage since he's not used to rebuilding. Ancelotti at Everton: #whatcouldpossiblygowrong
It appears that some of our blue brothers are getting a bit giddy. TBF getting ancelotti is a bit of a coup and IF the new stadium happens it w will be brilliant for the club and city as a whole. You would think though that given the recent history of both clubs and stadium plans they would at least wait for the proverbial space in the ground before getting this excited. still, it's nice to have a couple back on the board as for some reason they have been a bit quieter than usual.
we were called to post by Astro as usual. Who really knows what will happen under Carlo. We have some good players, just struggled to make them a team until Dominic got hold. Crazy we have had some question how he has kept a role under Martinez, Koeman, Unsworth, Sam and Silva. Now Carlo? It’s like saying Jose was just lucky to keep Landon the big jobs....maybe Dunc has a sprinkle of what Carlo needs.
I think most would agree that you have some very decent players hence the pre season predictions of challenging the top 6 (ish) so that seems to suggest they have been managed poorly and Carlo should do better. Him keeping Dunc in some ways is almost a no brainer but it's also strange as am sure that part of Carlo's deal involved him bringing in his own coaching team. How is Dunk going to fit into that?
I think that Ancelotti is a great manager....or was a great manager. Remains to be seen if he can still deliver If he gets financially backed it could be a great move for Everton. Will be good to have two big clubs in the City again. We’ll clearly be better so no concerns from me
maybe part of the deal was to have Dunc involved. Some deadwood to ship out. Some players like Gordon possibly step up. We need a striker and Walsh, Koeman, Sam,Silva and Brands haven’t solved that yet b
