I'll throw a couple in which for intensity I still think take some beating, April 25th 1992, staring relegation to the 3rd tier and the famous Dvid Kelly goal, then a week later May 2nd, such hatred I had never felt before, Leicester away, still with the possibility of going down and in injury time Gavin Peacock's goal. Bedlam on the terraces with jubilation and sustained hostility for the next 45 minutes or so trying to get out of Leicester. Passionate crazy days but something for atmosphere and tension I will remember forever.

Gavin Peacock and David Kelly, what a partnership. We were besides ourselves when KK sold them. Obviously Peacock was for personal reasons but people couldn't believe we shipped Kelly. Of course Beardsley/Cole softened the blow! They were two wild games that you mention. Its bringing back some memories now. How good was Killer Kilcline for us? Kevin Scotts og against Brentford?

Don't think you can ever underestimate just how much those two games saved us from the unknown. Anything could have happened to the club. Its why for the older generation, KK will always be remembered fondly.

Aye we were on the verge of the abyss, I still feel exhausted thinking about the range of emotions that week contained, I even remember praying in my head when the Pompey game was still goal less and nothing was going right!!!!

Having the sad history of having been going to St James' since 1964 the atmosphere at the Barca game was for me the best ever. Partly as the "noise" seemed constant for most if not all the match and that "noise" was louder than after Tiote's goal.

Also have fond memories of Robert Lee's goal against Chelsea at Wembley and Shola's against Man U at Cardiff and the celebrations afterwards. After Robert Lee's goal the next thing I remember was Chelsea scoring and that was about 5 min later but what a great 5 min.

Now that Inter game was an experience and a half, 11,000 geordies taking over Milan for two days, brilliant atmosphere and the Inter fans were twats. Least safe I've ever felt at a football ground.

The 3-2 against Barca will forever be our greatest result against one of the best in the world ever.

The 4-4 for me, purely because I was there and it was incredible. When Diaby went off and it went to 1-4 you could feel the belief sweep around the whole stadium. Then Arsenal couldn't get out of their own half for the rest of the match, the goals kept rolling in, Rangers effort when it was 3-4 and then Tiotes equaliser. Unreal, never had euphoria like that. And we almost won it.

I'm sure the 3-2, 5-0 and games at Feyenoord and Inter Milan were equally amazing, but I only saw them on TV so can't really compare them.

The atmosphere at the 3-2 v Barca was the best i have experienced. It seemed like the whole ground was singing and clapping all the way through. My hands were agony by the end, fantastic stuff and No.1 for me. The more you think about it tho we have had some fantastic games and moments in games over the years. Just cant imagine how good it would be if we ever actually won something. I just missed the fairs cup tho it seemed exciting at the time but didnt appreciate it at 7 and not actually going to games till a year or so later. Man U 5-0 brilliant, League cup semi second leg v Spurs in 76 great too as was Bellers winner v Feyenoord or Ketsbaia in dying seconds in C.L. qualifier and Lee at Wembley v Chelsea.
Great memories, and yes more last season with the 4-4 and 5-1. Lets hope for more and hopefully better ones to come.

I'm a tad a confused as to the 'You can't compare, there's not as much noise from all seaters', when surely we've been all seater since promotion? Might be my young confused mind but I definitely remember sitting in the Gallowgate in 92/93, rather than sitting on the concrete barriers in the same place two years earlier.

I'm convinced some people think standing at SJP was stopped by Ashley rather than 20 years ago by the Premier League...

They were ****e then. When we beat Juventus they were one of the best teams in Europe and when we absolutely BATTERED ManUre they were the best team around at the time.

I would love to take some of the young lads on here back to the evening of 14 May 1969 when 59,303fans crammed into St James Park to see Newcastle v Glasgow Rangers in the Fairs Cup Semi Final. To be honest although the Barca atmosphere was brilliant, there's absolutely nothing that compares nowadays to the the frightening exhilaration of being at a game like that.

And on a topical note the atmoshere of the 4-3 Nottingham Forest game in 1974 when we came back from 3-1 down was another special one, apart from the exitement of the football there were 39 arrests, 23 people hospitalised (2 with fractured skulls) and 103 people treated for minor injuries.

The Leazes End, with 20,000 fans swaying from side to side, back and forwards, flags, banners, scarves, singing in unison, and rolling on the floor with your mates when we scored.

Proper football; spine tingling atmospheres. Different world.

Forest 4-3 was the best and many more. Sometimes with 20k of us away matches at LEEDS ETC. Taking over whole towns as in West Brom 74. it was magic. Charging the Stoke supporters blocking us off from our buses. Taking over London in 74 and 76 you would have thought we had won. Took over aCrdiff against Manure. Leeds was like a home game as was Everton and others. The 5-0 against Manure we were nowhere near as good that day compared to the year before when we marmalised them and got beat by a Cantona miskick. Schmeicel was a nightmare that day for us. AAAHHH yes

Good game people seem to have missed here. I went to our 8-0 win over Sheffield Wed, Shearer got 5. Cracking game and fantastic atmosphere. Think it was 99 or 2000 off the top of my head.

As far as I remember the Barcelona and Manchester United wins were when we were an all seater - although the atmosphere was still much better, always signing - I was definitely sat in the Gallowgate and I remember seeing Gillespie dashing up the line to whip over the crosses for Tino to nod in.

My personal favourite was actually the Leicester 4-3, when Shearer scored a hat-trick, we were 3-1 down, Leicester chanting "we want 4!" and that's what they got. Atmosphere was incredible.
