I've had six little rescue dogs in the last 20 years...two had been badly mistreated. But they were the most loving friends I ever had. Five have now passed over the Rainbow Bridge. But I still miss them every day. RIP little friends.

Always had rescue dogs in preference to paying a fortune for a pedigree. The craze for designer dogs amuses me. People pay hundreds of pounds for labradoodles, cockapoos etc but owners of a poodle which got out of the garden and was ravaged by a labrador or cocker spaniel would be up in arms about it. Yet people pay a fortune to people who organise it. At the end of the day they have what I have had, and been very happy with, from the RSPCA and Jerry Green Dog Rescue - a mongrel.

Always get misty eyed seeing this dog, right from on Paul O’Grady’s programme through all the adverts and films and TV programmes it has been in. Double of the first dog we got from Clough Road, so small being about 5 weeks old he could sit on my palm. Didn’t think although small he had enormous paws for his size. Only cost a 50p donation, they would have taken less, and in 18 years only cost for an injection when parvovirus was going round and 1 minor operation towards the end of his life. Smashing dog.
