Just to start it up a bit and I am a massive fan of Poch. For him to spend as long as he did at spurs and not win anything with the squad he had is really poor. In that time Arsenal who have been going backwards for a long time won the FA cup twice a poor UTD team beat us in the final of the league cup and Leicester have won the league. In fact the closest he has come to silverware was this year’s champions league final and he got his tactics completely wrong in that game. Maybe just maybe he is not as good as what the media would have us believe.
Oh come on. He turned Spurs from mid table to top four. Sven won lots. Ranieri won the league. Redknapp won the cup. Doesn’t make them better.
They were hardly a mid table team when he took over. Only finishing outside the top 6 once in the previous 6 seasons before he took over. I agree with you I think he’s a good manager but I don’t think he’s as good as what you think he is that’s all. No doubt about it he should have won silverware with that squad or at the very least reached more than one final. In fact in his time at Spurs we’ve probably had as much chance of winning silverware as what spurs had and we were going seriously down hill at that point. It just astounds me how you will call Koeman bang average yet treat Poch like he’s the messiah when in all reality he’s not done a lot and probably underachieved.
Don’t know to be honest. He’s doing a great job with the national team though not sure on his early years. As you pointed out he helped coach 3 raw talents to be in the top 20 in the world.( I think it was you that said being a coach was more about than points in the league)
I know I've said this to you before but I actually think his first season here was more impressive than the second despite the extra 3 points and higher place. We were superb during that season, think it was 32 goals conceded and the Villa and Sunderland humpings as well so by no means dull. Definitely would have finished top 4 if we had signed a striker that January imo, one of many big mistakes along the way to where we are now.
Nice reminiscing.....I may even join in tomorrow with a glass of plonk in one hand, and cigar in the other. If things go to plan. If not, I'll be keeping the samaritans busy instead. I think its christmas wish time of year, and mines been spent on this game.
I have literally just realised this is the match thread. It’s one of those games that is a must not lose and a draw is a better result for Villa than it would be for us. Can’t remember the last time we just cruised to victory with no stress. Got a feeling tomorrow is the day. 3-0 Saints no stress victory.
Eve of a must win game and we're running over the respective weaknesses and strengths of Poch and Ron for the six thousandth time
This is what happens when the Wife’s out and I’m stuck in Doors watching the darts with little one asleep on the couch. I want my Friday night back.
Ooh ****, I hope Ralph gets his tactics right tomorrow, for the full 95mins instead of the usual 45. Interesting reading of the above Poch vs RK squabble in comparison to where we are now. Visited a customer earlier today & spoke to a NU fan & whilst he accepts we’re in the mix, he’s sure we’ll be alright. I think he’s deluded but if Ralph gets a song out of this lot tomorrow, maybe. Hope the eternal.
