I love that safc strip, should always be the one. ps check out tony towers giving it the Vs when he scored
Also remember Billy and Tueart showboating back heelers in the first half of the cup final. by god could we do with a few out of that team now
That is one of my happiest memories of supporting SAFC and the clip doesn't do our performance justice. We destroyed Arsenal that day and (I think along with many others) I bought every paper on the Sunday and Monday to bask in the glory. I discovered, on the Monday, that the Financial Times actually carried a match report (I'd been unaware that they covered sport) but given their reputation for a lack of exaggeration the opening to it has stuck with me to this day. It read "If the score had been 10, 12 or even 14 -1 Arsenal could have had no complaints". Happy days!
Gutted by this news. I agree with whats said about the Man City cup tie being the best game at Roker Park, and will treasure Billy's part of that, but of course that was just one game from many in which he gave so much pleasure to us Thankyou Billy, RIP
what would you pay to go back in time to be at that Man c game, semi final and the F A cup final and yes most likely without Billy we may not have won the cup. so sad news today has to be 2 minutes silence next week before the Bolton match lets fill the stadium in his honour.
RIP Billy one of our all time greats. Thoughts go out to all your family. Will probably shed a tear on Boxing Day
Proper club legend. Before my time but obviously seen footage, especially the cup run and final. RIP.
Terrible news. If anyone deserves the title of 'hero', it was Billy. Gave everything on the pitch, but wasn't just a grafter.... he was a hugely talented player. Truly deserving of the praise he received. RIP Billy. You'll always be remembered by me as the legend that you are, for as long as I live. It was an honour to see you in red and white. Hero.
Just so sad to hear this news.....Rest in Peace my legend. Thanks for all the memories of a lifetime you have given everyone. Was there to see your debut as a young man....the rest is history. Loved your goal you scored at Old Trafford and even when you hit it.....Tommy Docherty said "The Stretford End ducked"....what a goal! You can leave this earth will your head held high......hero!
Billy Hughes was the antithesis to the lazy parasites we have had in the last few years. Chased down anything and everything and never stopped working all over the pitch. Farewell hero we will all miss you, worthy of the word legend.
