Started watching GOT's again because of Oberyn. But I'm going to stop at the end of 7. And let it finish how it should have. Winter is coming......well it bloody feels like it today!
Bet365 boss Denise Coates has received a £320m payday, confirming her position as the UK's best paid executive. The co-founder of online gambling firm was paid a £277m salary plus dividends as the popularity of online gambling continues to grow. -------------------------------------------------- Never shall they point the finger at the working class footballer bringing joy to many, when the head of a gambling firm pushing misery on millions takes that sort of money home. The shame.
Why? They are offering a service that there is a clear demand for and which is entirely optional. In what way are they 'pushing misery on millions'?
It is a sad indictment of our society today. As someone in the potteries’ Nan says, “You’ll never see Denise Coates on a bike”
I would guess that HR refers to the millions of people who have gambling addictions and or lose lots of money. Some people will say that they are adults and make their own choices, others would say that there is too much of this, too easily available.
I don't think I could say I remember anything that he was in (apart from a few carry-on films) but he seemed to be around forever and when interviewed, a decent man. One of the few black performers from that era, so I guess he was a pioneer in a dubious period of British entertainment. As you say Fats, childhood memories.
Others again will say that the endless adverts for betting sites every time a sports TV channel takes a break causes misery to millions. They certainly do me anyway, especially anything involving Ray Winstone. ‘Ave a bang on that.
Oi oi saveloy, gertcha. What the hell any of that means is beyond me but some of our London posters might be able to explain it to us country folk.
Uh oh. I feel a disagreement coming on. It's true they can possibly lead to addiction but I don't really like the state taking control of our choices in life. Cigarettes (ok probably justified), alcohol, betting and diet have all come under close scrutiny. The next step is usually to make things more expensive as is the case with cigs, alcohol and sugary drinks. They are out there and a lot of people get enjoyment from them, why should some people be affected by others lack of self responsibilty. Guidance is one thing but censorship is another.
In the case of alcohol, the state is justified in intervening because the state, i.e. you and me, bears the burden of dealing with the consequences. Apart from causing more preventable deaths than any other reason, the amount of disease and injury that’s down to alcohol is incalculably high. The tax payer foots the bill for dealing with all that, at a cost far in excess of the duty paid. Banning advertising is the least the government could do. Gambling might not be so obviously injurious to health, but for those with an addiction, it’s damaging in other ways. If people want to gamble why do they need to be constantly told every 5 minutes how to do it? An responsible adult can find a betting site easily enough.
Think it is a tricky one. Where do you draw the line between a nanny state and helping? I do agree though that there is too much betting advertising. It is really rammed down our throats. However, I think that makes the casual gambler bet more, not the compulsive one. However, this can turn a casual gambler to a compulsive one. Tricky as I said. Oh and this fence I sit on really hurts
