I just can’t agree with this. I either believe in my convictions or I don’t. Please don’t swing back on those of us who are not happy about it with a, “Let’s not be the reason things fail.”

Let's be honest here, the reason things will fail with Brexit is because it really is a **** idea. A really, really ****ty idea.

I can't change it personally, but I can hold my head up high that I did all I could as a normal citizen to stop it.

Ok I'll nail my colours firmly to the mast. I am prepared to do whatever it takes to make it fail. If that includes taking to the streets and becoming part of a fifth column so be it. My reason for this is that Pfeffel and his gobshite pals have so undermined the system and made lies the standard for political campaigns that I feel justified. And I didn't even want Corbyn to win, I just feel disenfranchised and cheated. And that's before we see the report on Putin's interference in Brexit.

 

Beds what on earth do you mean by help things go the right way? Or for that matter make it fail? Cheer on Boris and brexit? We as individuals have the right to express our views, disagree and argue the toss. The current government given the distorted size of it's majority due to FPTP is hardly democratic and needs challenging at ever opportunity. More U turns than a corkscrew coming.

In a word NO! I am more determined than ever to oppose everything they stand for. The election was a con. They promised northern Labour supporters a nice warm shower. What they will get from Johnson will be Zyklon B.

The same politicians are winning on the same platforms appealing to the same base across multiple countries that otherwise do not have that much in common.

The common denominator here is race. Sure, Johnson lies his ass off, but why are people so willing to believe his particular set of lies. He and Trump are similar, no? Neither one is a particularly charismatic or likeable guy. Neither one is all that principled. Trump used to be a Democrat. Wasn't Johnson at one point somewhat of a remainer?

They are in power because they tell people what they want to hear, regardless of truth. It's no accident that the two have abandoned previous stances to pursue similar political strategies.

If you accept that bigotry is what is driving this whole thing, everything makes perfect sense. If you don't, you will be hard-pressed to come up with any sort of rational explanation.

What the left chooses to do with this info. is unclear. Nothing happens in a vacuum. The bigotry is driven by other social and economic factors, so maybe you have to incorporate that. Maybe it's time to go to the street. Maybe it's time to go to war and rally your base and shame anyone who might still have a conscience. I don't know.

But until we acknowledge that the underlying message the masses are responding to is one of bigotry, we're going nowhere.

The right is coordinating across countries. Dude who shot up the church in New Zealand was an Australian who was heavily influenced by the US alt-right, which is in turn influenced by some prominent Canadians

The left is not similarly coordinated. We treat these guys like they are just a weird subset of weirdos. We're embarrassed. Like "Don't mind these guys, obviously they don't know what they're doing and are clearly suffering some kind of temporary madness. Ignore them."

 

I asked how to help get the country back on it's feet? What individual actions do we the general public make? Are you suggesting the opposition in parliament don't oppose, no desenting voice to be heard? Austerity and brexit have caused the problems I for one won't hold back on criticizing the appalling government who have already started renaging on election "promises".

 

It means people like you “patting me on the head” and saying, “there, there, don’t you be the one that makes it fail,” make me boil.

What exactly do you think I will do to make it fail, or even work?

Give me a list of things you want me to do, to “help things go the right way.”

I get on with my job and life as usual, trying to provide for my family and do what I can to help others as I go, when I can. Sadly, there is a strong chance that Brexit is going to make my job a lot harder, or even potentially stop it (should no deal happen).

I find your approach incredibly patronising and to be honest, the more I read your posts, the more I wonder what bubble you live in.

 

Fair point. Care about the homeless? Or families forced to use food banks (food banks ffs, in modern Britain!)? Get out there and help them, it’s all any of us can do for the next 5 years - when we will get another chance to vote out the architects of austerity.

 

Beddy really reminds me of my 77 year old brother, I wonder if it's a generational thing. He supports Brexit and by extension Pfeffel but when I ask him what benefit he will accrue I get a blank look. I asked him f he would be prepared to lose say 10% of his income to get Brexit and he replied that he would immediately. Him and his wife have combined incomes of around £20k p.a.!
