As I said to Badge Don't give up on it, check all the criteria for residence and see what applies to your situation. Oh and monitor policy changes on a regular basis spaffer is going to be posturing like a pantomime dame. Ooh er Boris you are awful and I don't like you at all.
Sadly if/when we crash out with no deal it's going to make it very difficult to see a residence possible........we are now exploring moving to to coast here and try to go for 6-8 weeks around Xmas and new year........not quite the same though.
Waiting to see what happens. The guy in Spain that deals with my taxes there, might be able to give advice at some point in the future. The community my property is in also has it’s own Facebook page, so I hope to learn from that as well. A big stumbling block could be the loss of reciprocal health care, but if I can make it work I will go for it. I just hope that you don’t have to be resident there now, as there is no way I could up and go back there, whilst my wife is still receiving very good health care here, from a consultant who deserves a knighthood for his work.
We will continue to monitor the situation ......but the plan of coming and going as we please with no restrictions won't be possible we fear......and as Badger has mentioned ...what about access to healthcare etc?
My brother has lived in Spain for 25 years and his wife is disabled and need constant medical assistance. He says the health care out there is amazing and although he has suffered from epilepsy since a toddler it was only when they moved to Spain that it was fully brought under control. If you can get to Spain and manage then have no concerns about the medics, they are world class and most appointments are often the same day. All the best to you guys and your families in getting the life you are hoping for.
“but the plan of coming and going as we please with no restrictions won't be possible” Something that Leave voters possibly didn’t factor in, for their future holidays. No EHIC will bump up the cost of travel insurance for all. I dread to think how much it will cost us for our next two weeks holiday, with my wife’s pre-existing illness. The last two weeks cost £225.00.
I will accept nothing that everybone in my body says is morally wrong. I have had enough of seeing people sleeping in shop doorways while people look the other way as they walk by. I cannot just sit and watch as the poor get poorer and the rich get richer. I cannot accept that it is OK for some people to have several homes while many people have no home at all. I cannot accept that it is OK to leave the mentally ill to cope for themselves as they sleep rough on the streets. That it is OK for people paying an exorbitant rent to a slum landlord see their housing benefit going straight into his bank account. I have had enough of seeing kids living in squalor and poverty. All of this makes me hate people like Gove, Johnson, Farage and Rees-Mogg because they could not give a ****. I will not shut up until these evil bastards that are hell bent on ruining all that is descent about our country get kicked out of government. I am old but I care. I cannot be as selfish as so many people of my generation are being. I'm all right Jack is not a mantra that I can live with.
ATM our travel insurance is through my bank account (of which I pay a monthly fee)...... But I wonder going forward what the increase will be or changes to terms and conditions.
We're residents in the Netherlands and happy with the level of care. My old bones need a far bit of physio to relieve the drink and sports related injuries and be fit enough for a bit of diving next year. I did find it reassuring when this **** storm was just kicking to have a word with Dutch immigration to clarify our situation.
How about moving to Scotland, where you will be immediately eligible to vote in indyref2. Then when they rejoin the EU, you regain your citizenship. Alternatively, or as well, sign this petition: https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petiti...ok&share=a61e22b3-b2bd-40ee-b54f-990e1668527f
I have heard so much good about the Spanish health care, but from my wife’s personal experience, we were unfortunate and chose a doctor that wasn’t up to scratch, and has changed her, and my, life beyond recognition. We had private health care , when we lived out there, and my wife was experiencing some pain in her chest/back, along with a cough. We visited the doctor who organised various tests, including hospital visits, and the explanation was that the pain was muscular. At the time we were working in the UK as live in carers, so whilst working in London, my wife started to feel worse, so visited a walk in centre in Kingston, where there were no doctors present. A nurse listened to her description of the symptoms and advised her to visit her doctor ASAP, but wouldn’t say what she thought the problem was, because she wasn’t qualified. By now the symptoms included a tingling in the legs and some loss of feeling. She flew back to Spain, saw the doctor and was reassured that there was nothing to worry about, so she come back to the UK to resume work. A few days later her legs stopped working. Fortunately she was caring for a client who house shared with another person who also had a carer. This other carer called an ambulance which rushed her to the local hospital, which forwarded her to another in London, where she was operated on to remove a tumour from her spine, caused by the spread of lung cancer. She can take some steps now, but not enough to be able to live a normal life, without needing a wheelchair and support. I accept that we were unlucky in our choice of doctor, as all our neighbours out there love the health care, which is why I would go back and live there. Sorry to spill my guts.
Bloody hell Badger, that is dreadful and my heart goes out to both of you. Truly. Nothing much I can say other than to wish you both every good thing and hope you can find a real peace in all you must be feeling. Thinking of you.
Badger mate you can say anything you like on here.......seriously no need to be sorry about sharing ......I am sure we will all wishing your wife gets all the treatments/help she needs/deserves and that you get the support you both deserve and need......stay strong mr and Mrs badger
Depends where in Spain you want to go Inthink. If you’re really determined , and can show you will have the means to support yourself, you’ll still be able to do it. There are parts of rural Spain that are depopulating fast and regional governments are likely to look kindly on any applicants for residency. Healthcare provision is likely to be the biggest hurdle.
Because you refuse to see the answer that is right in front of your face. Why would working class whites feel a ruch, snobby dude like Johnson is on their side? Why would they believe a bunch of very obvious lies primarily based around the idea that the UK is being ****ed over by non-British outsiders and evil immigrants? Until the left figures out why people are falling for right wing nonsense they will continue to lose. You'll just keep asking your leaders to pitch the perfect game and the media to help you fight your battles and to carefully regulate Social media, etc. In the meantime, the right can just say and do whatever they please.
That's exactly what Pfeffel wants. I'm accepting nothing from him and his ilk. If there is any kind of civil disobedience then I'm up for that. If it means getting arrested then bring it on. Let them sort it out. What we need now is some kind of gilets jaune campaign. My favourite would be blocking motorways with some sort of rolling road with slow driven vehicles, maybe to coincide with the leaving of the EU.
..........nothing you have said is actually going to help those people is it? Why not actually get out there and try and help. As a few of us actually do rather than keep moaning about it !!
