Yes we won, but it was by the skin of our ****ing teeth. If we have any hope of progressing much further we'd have to work much harder than that.

Imo, this narrow win has just shadowed the fact that some players, given a good opportunity here, didn't pull their fingers out and yet AGAIN underestimated the opposition, which is starting to become an irritating habit the players which the players can't get out of their heads. We were essentially saved by the usual top players like Colo who put some effort in.

We're going to get booted out of the next cup game unless we find out who can't hack it and weed them out. We're also going to have to put out a much stronger team. I didn't expect things to get so tough this soon on, but they have, so it's time to take it up a level.

Well played to the lads for eventually winning, and well played to Forest for putting up one hell of a fight, but I do get a feeling that our team didn't step up today, and we were very fortunate. For the next match, we've got to put together a group of lads, whoever they are, who are going to take it seriously and give it their all.

To add a positive spin on this (from what I could hear on the radio) here are the players who DID step up and deserve some serious credit:

Marveaux - Seemed to play a very important role and tried hard
Ben Arfa - He'll still be shaking the rust off but he put in a good shift
Lovenkrands - I don't know how much he tried, but he tends to put a lot of effort into games, and he scored two, so fair play
Coloccini - The usual rock and scored a goal

    Have I forgot anyone?

Away from home with a weakened side against a lower division team in 'cup final mode', I'll take any victory tbh!

We had a stronger team out against Scunthorpe if I remember correctly and got through by the skin of Sammy's teeth there too

Getting through is the main thing, whoever you are playing I'm sure Aston Villa, Tottenham, Sunderland and the 3 newly promoted teams would happily swap places with us as far as the League Cup is concerned.

Think getting a win with the team we put out was a good result. Forest are a decent champ team, so it was never going to be an easy match considering how many of the starting team hadn't even started for the first team this year.

Very harsh this Chappaz. A win is a win and it was a weakened team that got the job done in the end.

Wishful thinking, it seems we're stuck with Shola for the long term.

You said in the match thread that in your opinion the team we had out for most of the match was a championship standard team, in that case we've done well to beat another championship standard team.

Anything can happen in the cup and remember this is the first time some of these lads have played a full game together and still managed to chizzle out a win, I say good on them and good result!

tbh they had one screamer and one lucky goal so they were very lucky to get into extra time, and its a cup game, look at stevenage last year, we will play better players when we need to like maybe the next round.

By all accounts I heard Abeid and Guthrie did okay. Guthrie wasn't as good after Ben Arfa came off mind

Marveaux played out of his skin by the sound of it was all over the place and did everything with precision

Don't give a crap about the performance, getting through is the main thing. Would rather play crap in every match and win the cup than play an absolute blinder and lose in the next round.

This really. If we'd put out our full strength team and got this result it'd be disappointing. Have no problem with fielding some brand new, some returning and some fringe with about 3 regular starters and getting an extra time win. I doubt Pardew will play such a team if we draw Man United in the next round.
