Anyone likely to be watching this later? Only one possible winner for me - Ben Stokes. I've spent most of today nursing a hangover and watching re-runs of the Headingley Test match and the World Cup final. The conclusions of both still bring a joyful tear to my eye.
Should be a shoe-in really but I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get the nod. That incident when he was pictured with his hands around his wife's neck may prove costly, also the BBC don't show cricket anymore. If it were personality as much as talent Dina Asher-Smith would be a great choice, she's set to be Britain's athletics poster-girl for the foreseeable future...
It's some arena they're having the awards at - the new TECA up in Aberdeen. I was working on the prep for SPOTY a couple of weeks ago, it's a massive hall, capable of 15k standing, so imagine there will be a big live audience.
Used to enjoy it, but it's a crap format these days. I'll probably record it and skip through . Stokes should win it imo.
Lineker is starting to irritate me. Like that oaf Carragher of Sky - get rid. Plenty of fresh talent waiting to be discovered. Why does £1m+ of TV licence fee dosh need to go to Jug Ears? People would watch MOTD if Dianne Abbott hosted.
Thought about getting rid sky due to that tosser Carragher, his voice & talks crap, always turn over after watching a prem match as can’t stand the analysts, I’ve watched it & don’t need them rabbiting on about it
I actually disagree. His voice is aggravating but I find him and Neville very knowledgeable. My favourite is Danny Murphy who is very insightful imo.
I like Neville and Murphy. Ian Wright is great too - he’s really grown on me. After Spittinggate I don’t see the point of Carragher. He’s made his millions playing, so kick the uncouth thug out and get another old pro in - there’s loads to choose from.
I think all the football pundits are hypocrites, particularly Shearer. Neville is the best for me. Well done, Stokesy.
Quite a few mess ups on SPOTY. From the lights being dimmed to Lineker saying to Stokes early on that he was the winner. ''sorry I meant a contender'' to Denis Law barely being able to read and saying 219 winner of SPOTY. For the BBC it was not very well put together, in my opinion.
