How unprofessional was that at the end. We should easily have run the clock down. Lyle Taylor was auditioning for an Oscar. A massive two points wasted.
I really thought we had this won. Phillips made some great saves, Gallagher played like two men in midfield, and the three CB's all looked solid. But our full-backs aren't up to scratch. Matthews looks a poor defender to me, worse than Purrington, although slightly better going forward. When Oshilaja came on we looked like a Powell team defending a lead.
Got to agree with you FHB. First up, well done to the fans in the covered end backed the team well the whole evening, great stuff. I was surprised by how poor Hull were, aside from danger in some of their attacking moves (though not all), Thought Huddersfield closed us down better and passed & moved better. Apart from sleepwalking straight after the break and conceding that soft first equaliser, I made us the better team on the night, if only marginally. We harassed the opposition better than we had done on Tuesday evening, and for the most part I thought Naby had a good game. He certainly got plenty of appreciative chants. Scoring our second - and a well crafted one - after just a couple of minutes at 1-1 really raised spirits again. Hull didn't look at all special defensively, and I felt confident we could get a third. That 96th minute incident though was an absolute shocker. It was a good thing there weren't any youngsters in the seats around mine, as I could not help bursting into fluent Anglo-Saxon. F*ck me, what a kick in the b*ll*cks. Never has a point felt more like a defeat. Then I had a dreadful trip home, through all the night roadworks that suddenly sprang up as if by magic right across London. I get home at about half past midnight (having watched the BBC election show right through the previous night, so been awake for about 42 hours) only to find workmen digging up the CLOSED road 100 yards either side of my house (8pm to 5am night shift) forcing me to park well away and walk to my own front door through the freezing rain. Another exploration of colourful language duly ensued Still, Jezza was trounced, so it was worth it in the end. Gutted for the team though, and fellow fans. One point is valuable, but how close we were to three. Absolute choker
Fair play to Naby Sarr. He created and finished our second goal well last night. QPR and a 3,000 sell out ...here we come.
Did anyone else notice the fracas between Lockyer and Dillon Phillips at the end of the first half ? Jason Pearce eventually came over and pulled Lockyer away.
Yes, the covered end started singing "Charlton's Number One", which I suppose signified support for Phillips, who had a fairly typical game. Some atrocious distribution and some terrific saves. One in particular, low to his left was unbelievable, preventing what looked like a certain goal. Taylor didn't look particularly interested last night, either when he was warming up or when he finally came on.
Agree about Taylor, lots of histrionics & rolling about but I commented to my son ...he’s saving himself for January.
He didn't add anything when he came on, and caused chaos in the defense when he came back to help out. Bonne still was putting more energy in than Taylor did.
Reflecting on Friday’s performance further, I think we are going to have to prioritise defensive reinforcements in January. Pearce and Purrington haven’t really convinced this season. Neither has either Solly or Matthews at RB.
it is odd that pearce barely played last year in league one (as he was third choice) but is this years first choice. i'd say only lockyer is championship quality, but even he has his moments
