I've seen some particularly odious things posted on Twitter by the "winners", for example saying that Jo Swinson lost her seat because she said there's more than two genders (as opposed to, say, being as gormless as she was clueless in literally every aspect yet thinking she'd be PM this morning)
The media in this country is overwhelmingly right-wing and social media has amplified the effect. People are voting Tory as a "blow to the elite", as Sky Australia are calling it. Utterly divorced from reality.
Yes and no in terms of social media In the case of Twitter, they came down hard on the Tories after the FactCheckUK farce Facebook, on the other hand, has been ****ing dismal: they did jack **** about the Tories (and Lib Dems) pumping out lie after lie, and what's worse they changed their search algorithm post-2017 election so the left-wing blogs that got a lot of traffic two years ago got a fraction of it
I was leafleting on wed morn for labour at my local station and overwhelmingly the 40 plus commuters were anti Corbyn but when asked why they could not give an answer , my town voted leave , when I then asked was it Brexit, anti semitic, siding with terror groups people could not pin it down. Younger voters wanted to talk and were pro Corbyn but I was spat at and had a leaflet shoved back forcefully towards my face by white 60 plus men a couple of times . Hemel Hempstead has no hospital, foodbanks and an MP who does not live in the town , he increased his majority by more than 3'000 I despair for the future ......
Britain and the USA.Two "countries" seperated by a common language and lunatic politicians. UP THE WORKERS!!!!
The surprising thing was the willingness of so many to vote against their own self interest because they want to leave the EU so much - or so it appears. The inclination to vote Labour, which has been passed down through the generations, is clearly trumped by the inclination to demonstrate British nationalism, xenophobia and a misguided superiority complex - also passed down through the generations. Or don't I understand?
Don’t know if it’s already been posted but saw this and it made me Christian Eriksen turned away from the polling station after failing to get a cross in the box after 27 attempts
The main reason I voted to stay in the EU was not because I approve of much of the neo liberal tendencies the EU demonstrates it was because of it's other side as demonstrated by the way Germany and France in particular run their own countries and the moderating effects it had on what you describe as:- 'British nationalism, xenophobia and a misguided superiority complex' I would describe it as English rather than British but generally it's definitely there. Guided by the likes of the Mail and Express England has long been it's superior self barely tolerating the bloody foreigners across the Chanel. The sooner Scotland leaves England to it's little American future the better.
Can somebody ask Jo Swinson a simple question: was the thought of Jeremy Corbyn as interim PM for two weeks really that horrible?
I know a Liverpudlian working class bloke that voted Tory. He didn't like it when I told him that he'd voted for the party of the Hillsborough cover up, for some reason! Brexit will fix everything and show those elites, apparently. ****ing idiot.
It's like the ignorant dullards in places like Grimsby and Scunthorpe saying they voted Tory as Labour hasn't done anything for nine years, somehow failing to understand the reason their towns are complete ****holes is because of the party who have been in power for nine miserable years that clueless dickheads like these are ****ing voting for
Interesting documentary about Southern Irish men that volunteered for the British Army during WW2 and how they and their families were illtreated when they returned.Lost their jobs and ostraciised…..if they were lucky to survive the war. WOW!!!!
Didn't take long for this bunch to pipe up... Out of curiosity, has anyone told them what happened to the Yellow Tories last week?
1. Some lack of education there about UK politics. < SDP > 2. Correct about the folly of potentially aligning/joining with any UK political party that has "liberal" in its name (see 1) .
The idea that Labour didn't win because they weren't right wing enough is pure idiocy. They didn't win because of a combination of the Yellow Tories splitting the vote in various marginals coupled with a bunch of gullible northerners who clearly haven't read Animal Farm
NOTE : those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. 1. The reason Labour did not win is partly because they have confined 1981-83 to the "memory hole" ( "the longest suicide note in history" - see NOTE) . 2. If this "Blue Labour" lot think they can be a new incarnation of the SDP, then I refer them to NOTE (which they will do well to heed, given that none among their ranks have a fraction of the esteem/gravitas among the electorate that the "Gang of four" had in their time) .
The reason they didn't win is because facts were ignored and lies were endlessly repeated, because apparently the North Korean model for political debate is the one we should follow
Jess Phillips has put herself forward for the Labour leadership in an Observer article An Observer article where she mentions herself fourteen times...
