He's just young and not yet good enough. It was obviously going to be that way when we signed him. Called it straight away.
I disagree. In that game he got sent off (wow bad example!) he was really good until the wild second yellow challenge. He looked competent in defence and promising going forward. Obviously one month with our ramble was enough to set him back 18 months, but I certainly thought he had potential.
Surely that is even more reason for him to be "ready to go"? Fine, permanently sign a young player who could be of use to you in the future. But to loan a player in for just 12 months, you want someone who is ready.
I thought it was like the Ings deal, we left it too late to get the paperwork done so did a loan with an option, but it is guaranteed we take the option?
QUOTE: DE -Saints’ boss revealed that Danso has also been struggling with his fitness.“Kevin played one time at right back, it’s not his best position,” explained Hasenhuttl.“He played against Bournemouth and it wasn’t a fantastic game for him.“He’s more a centre back than a right back but in the end, there are not as many alternatives at right and left back so it’s good to have him in the squad.“Last game he had problems with his knees, so he wasn’t in the squad. This week he could train and hopefully he stays fit.”
I'm not going to write off a young lad's prospects at Saints after only a sporadic handful of chances in the first XI but it is clear that he is not the saviour at CB that we desperately need and us fans had hoped for. Unfair for too much expectation to be put on his shoulders right now.
It's rumoured we're back in for Maehle again from Genk. The quicker we can get Cedric out of here, the better. To have 2 young, exciting RB's battling for the spot would be a massive plus. The article also links us with Pongracic from red bull. Would love that, but can't see it happening personally. https://www.skysports.com/football/...e-southampton-consider-move-for-genk-defender
I certainly wouldn't be against us signing a new RB. And new CB. And new CM. And new GK. And new (extra) striker. And another option at LB. And a no.10. And maybe a wide man.
Priority has to be a CB. Even if we were to spend 30m (which we obviously wont) Id probably rather get a commanding CB that will sort the rest if the defence out. This is more or less the same defence Van Dijk made look class! Also selling Cedric for £10m and reinvesting that would be worthwhile
