Yep, Sky is gonna kill off 75% of clubs eventually. These Liverpool and Man. Utd "fans" who live in London or Cornwall who pay Sky to "support" their clubs from their sitting room make me sick. They could play without fans nowadays as their money is a pittance compared to Sky's loot. But it is the atmosphere fans create that actually make professional football the draw that it is. I imagine there will be European Super League of clubs eventually and 150 years of historic clubs like ourselves, Leeds, Sheff. Wed etc. will be regarded with the same status "non league" clubs have today and will be permanently locked out of the Sky gravy train.
The premier league initially was good for the game ,but eventually it had bred greed an nothing but financial trouble for clubs
I agree. I would add that i think the onset of the Champions League is most responsible for the lack of a level playing field in today's market.
They were at an advanced stage with the club re the takeover but they were shocked to see the likes of Derby sheff wed etc and the level of debt and how much they'd spent to try and get into the premier league Stewart Donald was trying to persuade them that we were not a Derby County or sheff wed etc You know where my info is from mate, imo they have decided to test the water with Donald and see if he uses this money wisely. I still think they will eventually take over but I don't think stewart donald will be at the club when that happens as I think that they don't believe he is the right man in the long term
It’s not Sky money that makes the rich clubs richer. It’s the rise in sponsorship deals. Sky are a part of that as it makes Premier League football more accesible globally, but Sky alone, there’s not enough visibility for it. The real money at the top clubs comes from the global investment driven by the Premier League overseas TV rights, the ones nobody talks about as the deal isn’t published and on the face of it is sold for a relative pittance. You see how many English brands are sponsors around the pitch at Old Trafford, Anfield or the Etihad. That is what makes the rich clubs richer. The Sky money variance alone from 1-20 wouldn’t catapult a club onto another level. The kits and sponsor deals are huge due to worldwide markets, indeed, Sky itself is paid for by adverts, the ma they subscription fees don’t even cover the PL deal, let alone the thousands of hours of other live exclusive content. Sky didn’t make the Premier League global, the FA did, and the clubs, including ourselves, Leeds etc, well they voted for it, they wanted it. Sky and BT (2 businesses I’ve worked for and know just how brilliant companies they are, inside and outside of sport), merely provided what some 17 million sports subscribers want, Sky at ever falling sports prices. UK money can not and would not sustain the Premier League. Not even close.
Ah right you're saying a FPP takeover will happen. Do you think they've overpaid already? How much balance will they have to pay or will they sit and wait for administrators to sort it all out?
I'm with you on most of that but don't think it was simply the finances of Championship clubs that was the main problem. TBH that's pretty much common knowledge and I don't believe it came as a shock to FPP at that late stage. Club finances throughout the leagues are regular topics on forums, and we all know roughly how much is needed to get out of each division. The amount that Ashley spent to get Newcastle back in the PL is well documented. In all honesty I've no idea why anyone would want to become involved in football. If it's to make money I find that crazy, you'd do better putting your money in your Post Office savings account
10 minutes from the end, at Man Utd and Arsenal, and thousands have left. Football has lost its soul and there's no way back ... ... I suspected it when Leicester celebrated winning the league with clackers
