28/10/2019 : A local derby, a Cup-tie, form goes out of the window ... all the cliches. I hope it will be an entertaining and exciting game, with AVFC edging it, hence my prediction (below).
Sod's Law says it will be 0-0 at Full Time, followed by penalties ... I hope not !

I should have gone with my default prediction for this, instead of being adventurous (!).
Anyway, no complaints about the result tonight, well done Lads.
The 5th Round (QF) draw is tomorrow.

EPL (Premier League), Saturday 02/11/2019 : Aston Villa v Liverpool, KO 15:00 hours.

31/10/2019 : A tough test for AVFC against the Club that are at the top of the EPL through their abilities, not financial doping (aka State Aid). Naturally I am hoping for a win for AVFC but would not be surprised if we lost, so I have compromised and predicted a draw.

I just hope we take the game to Liverpool and do not go into a defensive shell, for doing that would invite and probably incur a defeat.

Whether our game is played as scheduled is dependent on the EFL sorting out Liverpool's fixture pile-up !

Most folks who predicted on this match predicted a win for Liverpool and the result reflected the balance of play.
However, for AVFC to take the lead early and then retain it until the last 3 minutes, only to lose the game in the very last minute, is particularly galling.

03/11/2019 : This weekend I have had to wait for the final game before doing my analysis.

05/11/2019 : Statement from the EFL today :

The Carabao League Cup Quarter-Final tie between Aston Villa and Liverpool has been confirmed for Tuesday 17 December (7.45pm kick-off) as originally scheduled.

This means Liverpool will be playing in both the League Cup and that FIFA 'Club Championship' in Qatar, with two games in two days. Mr Klopp is not happy about this and I agree with him. Personally, I think the EPL and the EFL should tell FIFA to stick their 'tournament' where the Sun does not shine.

Disappointing for AVFC to lose today but it is not a disaster, just the ebb (this time) and flow (League Cup) of local derbies between equally matched teams. For once an international break is welcome, as it will give AVFC recovery time for our injured players.

12/11/2019 : The return of the Bruce ... delayed by SKY, but nevertheless it will afford us the chance to compare the playing styles of our current and former Managers. I expect to see a win for AVFC and might have been conservative in my prediction.

I followed this match via my Twitter feed and SSN (TV). This is a decent result which could have been better, it seems we gifted Man United their 1st half equaliser. Have to wait and see the highlights, especially Jack Grealish's opener.

After the draw at Man United this defeat is disappointing, but it is the result most folks probably expected.

05/12/2019 : We take on an ordinary club that has achieved extraordinary successes on Sunday. This is proof to me that the EPL need not be the plaything of the so-called 'Big Clubs' and by any measure, AVFC is one of its biggest Clubs anyway.
What Leicester have achieved we can, in time, achieve (again) too and thereby add to the long and proud history of Aston Villa. I hope AVFC will get back to winning ways on Sunday and I make my default prediction to that end.

We have a long way to go to get to Leicester's level. It is ironic that on the day we remembered our most successful Manager, we stay out of the bottom 3 thanks to our previous Manager.
