Pav was a legend and a great guy, but he was only really a "solid" keeper. Around that time we had a deluge of crap keepers (Wright, Hooper, Hislop, Karelsi, etc) and Pav easily ousted all them. In recent times our keepers have been far better than previously - I'd rate all of Dubravka, Given, Harper and Krul higher than Srnicek.
Given was good, but was pretty overrated (I always found Krul overrated too). Great shot stopper, but crap at commanding his box, and he was always made to look good because he nearly always had a terrible defence in front of him and he was always the main focus. I'd definitely have Dubravka now over Given in his prime.
Krul was over-rated. Mostly because he broke through at a young age (for a keeper) and could have developed into a top notch keeper with the correct tutelage. He has had a good enough career to show he wasn't rubbish but he never developed to the levels he suggested he would. Given was quality. Hard to compare with Dubravka but peple suggesting he wasn't that good are wide of the mark. I notice no-one has mentioned Harper. Looked very good for a while. Plus we let Fraser Forster go. We've had a decent record of developing top flight goalkeepers, it's the outfield squad we've failed at.
