I love Ebbor Gorge, you can have the place almost to yourself if you are lucky. I miss Somerset and would move back in a heartbeat if the current Mrs RJ wasn't firmly rooted in Wiltshire.
It’s my wife’s birthday today, and it’s become a tradition to have lunch in the Hunter’s Lodge at Priddy (cauli cheese and a pint of Totty Pot), followed by a walk around Ebbor Gorge. We were blessed with the weather today!
Yeah, that's not bad. My old dad learned to swim by being thrown into the water near that slip at high tide. The sign that says Turkish Baths, I think eventually became part of the Lido, which I went to several times, though my preference was for the indoor baths further up the road [which is still there in a different guise]. That waters edge was pushed back by land reclamation, and the Western Docks were formed. There is a great aerial photo of that in the archives somewhere. I'll try to find it.
Well, that was immediately fruitful: please log in to view this image Notice the straight formation of Western Docks start to push upwards, to eventually enclose that once delightful bay.
And here is when they finally enclosed the bay: please log in to view this image So, apart from Western Shore, Woolston, Southampton lost its beach.
https://news.sky.com/story/polands-...ed-from-london-in-top-secret-mission-11877418 £4 Billion worth of gold stored in London since the outbreak of WWII has been returned to Poland in a secret mission. If that was a movie it would have been stolen in a heist
You seriously never knew about the land reclamation of the bay, FLT? I thought it was common knowledge. Incidentally, even my Dutch buddy was slightly impressed about it.
I knew...your Dad told me. It's funny sometimes that we can go our whole lives thinking something is true when the reality is different. My Dad spent most of his life thinking he was a Devon boy, then found out in his 70s that the family were actually Cornish
Ah, OK. 'Ampshire 'Og, but not a Moosh. And Rorschach has taken your comment out of context. He did a "reading" Rorschach Test on it.
Well, I guess when Kryten asks for help, I accept the sharing challenge. I'd have only moved faster for Ace:
What are you babbling about TSS? All I said was that I knew Fats wasn't from Southampton, because his Dad told me a few years ago when I met him in a pub.
Yes, but he wasn't going on about that. He knew that he wasn't a local. What he didn't know was that land had been reclaimed at Soton Docks.
Love these old photos ! - anyone got a pic of the old Antelope Ground where Saints used to play ? - it was south-a-bit from Onslow Road.
