Do like one tomorrow and it won’t surprise the regular readers to hear that it’s one that I’ve spoken about a fair bit of late. TIS FANTASTIC, for that is he, goes at Southwell (3.05)

This 4YO son of Montmartre had 3 runs in novice hurdles earlier in the year which, to use the technical term, can best be described as ‘nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more…’. These earned him a rating of 87 and on his handicap bow, in October, Tis Fantastic stepped up on these runs to finish runner-up at Chepstow (and some 13 lengths clear of the 3rd). That form has since been boosted and made to look very solid by the winner coming out and running a very good 2nd of 18 and the 3rd home (beaten a long way, don’t forget, at Chepstow) winning at Plumpton.

Tis Fantastic was raised 7 lbs by the handicapper after his October effort but that would not appear harsh when you consider (i) how far he was clear of the rest of the field (winner apart) and (ii) the way the form has been made to look solid since that day. I also think that Chepstow race, was in the main, a stronger heat as tomorrow opponents largely look either very, very exposed or handicapped to the bally hilt. Tis Fantastic, in contrast, looks the sort of horse who could be on the up and capable of easily outrunning, in time, his current perch.

Meanwhile, Tis Fantastic is also nicely bred as since 2016 his half-siblings, Customer and Polidara, have both won hurdles and chases across The Channel.

    Good luck all.

Wolves 16.45 10p ew on Goldie Hawk at 28/1. Another newcomer Dubai Quality is all the rage but 28/1 looks a decent price for such a pedigree.

    Southwell 2.05 Toi Storey

This one has progressed in every run until returning from a break at Kelso last time. In this race Toi Storey didn't run bad (racing post comment: "headway 3 out, ridden and weakened from next"). Should be fitter today and tongue strap on should help. Is a winner on heavy and should cope with the step up in trip. Yard amongst the winners recently. There is a bit of money going down on this one. Interesting each way chance in my opinion.

    Southwell 2.35 Springfield Fox

Unbeaten as a pointer and looks the type you shouldn't write off after a disappointing debut (was fancied on that day) coming under pressure early and unseating. Tom George does very well with his hurdlers at Southwell if you look at the stats over the last 5 seasons

    47 Runs 16 wins 16 placed

With the 11/2 on offer at the moment its a sound each-way chance I think.

    1:30 Keep Rolling

He showed enough last time to suggest that he has the ability to win a novice race and hopefully that run will take the freshness out of him. He was a good bumper horse and at 6s I thought he was the one to be with today.

    Southwell 3.05 Golan Cloud

I like this one as an each way option in this. Best run was on debut in a maiden hurdle in testing conditions when 5th. Last run at Uttoxeter
after a break wasn't that bad ("Held up in touch, ridden after 6th, weakened 3 out"). Handicap mark down 4lb now. Money coming down on Golan Cloud this morning (from 16/1 to 10/1) so better showing can be expected. Yard amongst the winners recently.

    Southwell 3.35 Small Present

Didn't see out the trip at stiff Carlisle when second 3f out to over 1f out over 2 m 1 f and finishing 5th. Today down in trip to 1 m 7 f for a stable back to form after a long time on the cold list. Should be in the mix with good conditional up at 11/1.

Form on soft or heavy reads 92P3333

Finished strongly on first run at Lingfield and after a break over 2 m 4 f on heavy when 3rd. Now the first time over 2 m 7 f on heavy could bring out some improvement for a stable who usually does well at this track. Will be there when stamina comes into play. Nice each-way chance.

    Lingfield 2.15 The Gipper

Before this ones last disappointing run at Fontwell on October 23rd I wrote here:

"This one is much overpriced in my opinion. His last 2 wins were in a class 3 on slow ground in December 2018. Conditions will surely suit today. 1 lb below his last winning mark.Stable amongst the winners recently. Enough positives for me to have an each way bet."

Returns today after a breathing operation and cheekpieces added today.

Worth another bet at currently 7/1.

Lingfield 2.45 The Game is a Foot

Really likes it around Lingfield. No winning chance last time at this track but keeping on in 3rd over 2 m on heavy. Today over 2 m 3 furlongs will suit. Page Fuller knows the horse and takes off 3 lb. Stable in good form recently. Another one you can expect to accelerate well in todays testing conditions at a tasty each way price.

One I like today is Belargus 7/1 in the 1:00 at Southwell. Win bet. Might have a deeper look at the cards for another bet if it wins. If not it'll be my only bet

    Lingfield 3.15 Skipping On

Encouraging return after a break at Newcastle last run when leading for most of the way (jumping well) until weakening at the end. Should be fitter today, will like todays testing conditions and the highly talented Tabitha Worseley is up again.

3rd and one to follow in handicaps. Wonder if they will go chasing as that might get him to grow up quickly!
