Now we are all on a high after Saturday. And we are all more madly in love with Tiote than we were before the game, if that was even possible. However, with rumours circling that United and Chelsea are preparing bids for him in the summer, it could be a case that we will struggle to hold onto him.

With that said, if United/Chelsea come in and bid £20 million, who out there wouldn't accept that?

Cheik Tiote is an important part of this team. However, for such a massive bid and huge profit made on him within the space of a year, we can trust our scouting system, which has been excellent over recent years, to go and find a good replacement.

The sell of Carroll and perhaps Tiote could potentially raise £50 million for this club, giving us a good financial footing, allowing us to reinvest in players and strengthening the depth of this team.

I am a massive fan of Tiote, in fact he's my favourite player, however, if a big enough bid came in, I would say thank you for the service and goodluck.

    *cough* Andreas Ottl *cough*

    Free player in the summer...

£20 million for Tiote... Hmm. I could be tempted as long as it went into the club.

  4. All this money wont stop us getting relegated mate. Our club has a track record for spending tonnes of money on ****.

I'd rather keep Tiote. The 35 million from Carroll is enough.

The quality of players that contracts are expiring also make selling Carroll, and potentially Tiote, good business. We can sign very good replacements on free transfers if we offered the right wages, which would be easier to do with the windfall from selling them.

But that's the previous regime. Since Ashley has come in, we haven't spent ridiciulous amounts of money on poor, unfit or unhappy players. Yeah, we've signed a few players that haven't fitted into the club but those were on cheaper deals. I trust our scouts, especially after their track record over the last few years, to be able to fit replacements for far less than what we are selling players for and to keep this club moving in the right direction.

This concept of buying young talented players to build our team is a bit useless if we sell them when it turns out that they're actually good players.

We'll just end up as a lowly feeder club to the top 4 teams. We use our scouts and cash to invest and gamble in young players, then when the risk pays off, a top 4 club comes along and takes them away. Rinse and repeat.

Be difficult to turn down £20M for Tiote, let's face it until we can bring in minimum Europa Cup we'll struggle to keep hold of our best players.

I wouldn't accept that! Tiote is a fantastic player and what is the point in spending it on someone who will never be able to fill his shoes.

I actually mean you can't fill his shoes , rumour has it that there are blades in his shoes.

    I disagree.

Say we do sell Tiote, then our scouts bring in a perfect replacement, then we we sell the replacement for a profit, then bring a replacement for the replacement..

There's no point! Just keep Tiote I say, I don't want us being a selling club that just makes profit!

Many clubs will look towards players in the coming years as an additional revenue stream; especially with the UEFA Financial Fair Play Ruling soon to be introduced and enforced.

NUFC are lucky on the basis that of all the revenue streams available to utilise; selling players is the lowest earner as TV, home gate and merchandise bring in substantially more year on year.

Perhaps we will retain them in the near future but if the transfer money could be utilised to put us in pole position for European places due to the health of the clubs books now; is that such a bad thing?

I'm not saying that's club policy as none of us really know what 'model' Mike is following this year.

Then there's the catch 22 of "will we get to be challenging for the Europa Cup (or whatever it's called) unless we manage to keep hold of our best players"....

I think IF we do let him go in the summer it has to be dependent on 3 things; 1) that we get a big fee for him, 2) that the big fee gets put back into the team and 3) we have a replacement lined up or signed in principle already. No last minute deals trying to replace the best player in our team like we had this time last week, please!

But I would still do everything possible to keep him without disrupting the squad (i.e. no silly wages above the wage cap).

It's not as simple as just keep Tiote. If a big club (ie club playing Champs League) come in with a big fee and big wages then the player will go. Look at Carroll and he didn't even go to a club playing in Europe.

In the current market Tiote is worth way more than £20m, Chelsea paid £17m for Ramires! I don't want him sold, a player who does what he does so well is hard to find. I hope we don't do some **** deal with Man Utd that see a deal involving money + Carrick for Tiote. Don't want any players coming to the club that have stagnated and have no point to prove or anything to play for and expect c. £60k per week for the privelage. We've done that in the past and it ****ed us right up.

I don't think a top team will come in for him this summer, they may well wait till next year to really see how he develops in the Prem before making moves, and tbh his value won't dramatically increase in that time if it's already £20m plus so they'll feel they have nothing to lose. The beauty of this is it gives Newcastle a good time period to spend the Carroll money and really improve next season and push for Europe, if we can do that then we really will have no reason to sell our players nor would a lot of them have reason to leave. We just need to make sure we spend right this summer and really kick on (assuming we stay up obv!).

If Tiote went to Man Utd he would break the hairdryer. Nuff said.

The 35m we had for Carol is enough. Sell Tiote!? To sell him we'd have to have a replacement lined up - as good as or potentially better.....and I don't imagine that there's many players out there in his position that we can get our hands on. I'd be gutted if he went, regardless of the fee. Put it this way - if a nega rich investor came in and gave us silly money to replace everyone in every position, the ONLY one I wouldn't even consider changing would be Chiek. S'pose he reads these threads, and he reads all you lot saying 'yeah, sell him for 20 mill..he'd think sod it, they don't really want me. Bottom line is we'd be very very very lucky to find a like for like replacement anywhere near as good as him. I want to attend Tiote's NUFC Testimonial !!

I also 100% agree! And when the risk does not come of as is more than likely, then we'll end up relegated, AGAIN!

Everyone assumes he's going to have his head turned by big wages..some players (agreed in a small minority) do have integrity, and I think Chiek is one of these players. If we really want him to stay, we should be pro-active and do something about it, rather than waiting for the 'inevitable' - I think we should all write (not type, handwrite) personal letters to the great man, each of us explaining that we all love him and want him to stay. Give him directions to the Chieck facts thread so he can see for himself the esteem in which he is held...might sound daft, but I think that if Chieck received hundreds of letters, all expressing how much we want him to stay and how important he is to Newcastle, I beleive he is the sort of person that would take great great pride and want to stay and do his best for us, at least for 1 more season. Obviouslly, if Cashley decides to flog him we're screwed, but if we all let him know how important he is to us, I'm sure he would NOT put in a transfer request.
