If only we had a Norwegian international midfielder at the club to run around and be totally ineffective?

A disappointing result, shades of the 2013 performance. It seems whenever City gets good support away they somehow manage to disappoint them.

Why did it happen? IMO we had a week when we played Sunday then Wednesday and then Saturday. I just feel that short rest period Wed/Sat took its toll yesterday.

I always remember SB saying, players can play a game every day, but not to the same intensity. If you drop 5 or 10% because you a slightly fatigued you get what we saw yesterday.

Losing Magennis and Steward is a big blow also, and shows why I think we will fall short, we lack strength in depth.

Great to see Lewis-Potter get his first goal, I see he got Phil B starman and he was only on for the last 15 minutes.

Barnsley never gave us a second on the ball for the full 90 mins. They were in our faces and fierce in the tackle so more pumped up then us. Typical Championship stuff, they wanted it and out fought us. Its what happens in this league. Three games in six days was always a big ask, same for Barnsley, three in seven, but this was their best of their three, and our worse. Massive banana skin one this and we made sure we fell head over tit on it. Barnsley will not finish bottom playing like that.

I'm glad someone highlighted that Barnsley had played 3 games in a week too... I think part of our problem having only read the comments here and reports was it was a game made for Stewart, then add to that Groiscki and Irvine had both played a lot of football and travelled other than the weeks games. It shows how we are lacking as a squad when they cant be rested. As for Honeyman, some of the SAFC comments when he came here that night have been sour grapes might just be right. If we're dependent on yesterdays midfield moving forward then we're in trouble.

Barnsley did not look like a side that are bottom of the league with no wins in 17. Credit to them as we have seen much worse from a number of sides including City.

You just never know which City team turns up these day. A limited budget and a club up for sale are not exactly the ingredients for sustained success.

Sunderland fans were fighting amongst themselves to be the one to drive him south.

He’s now had eight starts and eight sub appearances and he’s looked poor in roughly sixteen of those games.

We’ve only won one of the games he’s started.

He’s good at running around a lot, but not much else.

He's alright if he comes on and we're winning, but he's definitely modelled himself on James Harper. Lots of Premier League pointing, even more National League passing.

To be fair to the deluded Sunderland fans, they seem to have actually been accurate with this one, they all said he tries hard, but never actually does anything.

    Typical City.

Wouldn’t be too surprised if we turned the Champions of Europe over again...

I'd say it's more typical championship then typical city... This league anyone can and will beat anyone. Money and star players don't win this league, consistent performances do

Just a few thoughts after watching the match yesterday

You WIN .... everything is great. You LOSE .... everything is lousy. Well that`s football

    BUT

    1. That first goal is often a big boost to a team and so it was on Saturday.

    2. We were still in the game of course and it could have been a different
story if Jarrod had scored with his right foot in the first half (couldn`t exactly
see how narrow the angle was) and with the his left foot (this time with the
whole of the goal facing him) in the second half.

    3. I thought Eaves used his presence well in the second half and thought
he was a victim of a lot of shirt pulling and holding by their centre half. I thought
that the ref. was very poor on the physical challenges and that Barnsley got away
a lot. (We should have had a penalty in the Middlesbrough game too when he had his
shirt blatantly yanked. I think he needs to appeal for these challenges more obviously)

    4. Can`t we swop the wingers around for 20 minutes or so to have a right footed player
running down the wing on the right and a left footed player driving down the left. This is
the natural thing for a right and left winger to do and with Eaves in there we have the big man
good in the air. It also gives the two full backs something different to deal with.

And finally I know a lot has been said about Honeyman but Da Silva frightens me to death. He
is obviously a skillful player and is quick but often uses these skills in the wrong place at the
wrong time putting colleagues in trouble. Defensively he fails to pick up a man or gives the man
he`s marking too much space or just backs off him.

Well that`s it for me ....... until the Stoke game.

New manager boost for Barnsley and it showed.
Pressed us and made us have to play faster than we do normally, so keeping the ball was a problem.
Not having a hold up player after losing magennis left us with a diddy front 3 and Bowen seemed to think the onus was all on him to do it all, which was a shame because their 2 CH's weren't up to much.
They surrounded grosicki so balls to him meant that he was having to challenge to take the ball which he is never going to do.
They deserved the win tbh against a lacklustre City.
Surprised/not surprised by the result - typical City, but well done to KLP.

The better sides tend to have consistency yes. Not been this season so cannot comment too much other than your league position generally reflects current form.

I know the typical city gets thrown about as a bit of a joke but it’s actually infuriating . I didn’t even realise they hadnt won since first day of the season, yet as soon as I heard Burnsy say it I thought well we can right this one off.
