Martin O'Neill should have been given the England job before McClaren got it, someone I know told me that he was asked about his ideas on grass roots football and what he'd do to improve the standard of your average 10 year old to which he replied 'You need a manager of the National team right ? WTF has the -10s got to do with me ? Unsurprisingly he was overlooked for the job but I make his response spot on. I'd love to see him back in management but you have to question why he's still unemployed when there must have been countless offers in the past year or so, would his heart be in it anymore ?
losing to shrewsbury do me a favour. derby lost 3-2 at home to shrewsbury, now look where they are, swansea lost 3-1 at the shrews, look how they took the baggies apart on saturday. losing to shrewsbury would be a major shock, and unlikely. what arsenal need now is a lot of confidence, 2 or 3 quick wins and for everyone to get of arsen's back and give him and his players a chance to sort it. i believe you owe them that, yes it has been a crap start to the season but i have a feeling by christmas you will look back and wonder what all the fuss was about. up the arsenal. and by the way it cannot look good to other clubs, 50% of you wanting aw out and the other half supporting him. it is time for all genuine arsenal supporters to get behind your manager and squad- well that should unite you all against aj
RVB and Gunnersurprise people. Martin wasn't sacked, he resigned when the Villa board started to sell players over his head (could be a conflict on that score here too). He has been working as a pundit as his wife has been ill. I would want him as a permanent appointment, he is in his fifties, is available and has been successful in the PL with Villa. Hiddink is a bit old, he's nearly 65 and currently in a job anyway. Ancelotti would be anothe possibility but i think the language barrier alone would be a major obstacle.
Well Martin O'Neill has had IMHO an outstanding career both as player and manager. I rather came to know more about him following his announcement to step away from Celtic to nurse his wife Geraldine who was suffering from cancer, back to health. Since then of course he has had more than a measure of success with Aston Villa but unable to secure the funding he required from their new owner, chose to leave rather than not be able to do the job in the way that he would have liked. I heard him on the radio recently and he sounds as switched on as ever. Perhaps he's just enjoying spending time with his family. After all he is 60 now and really, been there and done that. I agree that he would be a good fit at Arsenal.
He was terrific at Celtic and a real breath of fresh air, I like the way he tells things fairly str8 and is a passionate manager, Wenger has never been the most invloved manager on the touchline bar getting upset and frustrated. MON certainly would IMHO a better motivator and tactically astute manager thasn Arsene. This is all very hypothetical though and I hope Arsene can stil turn things around this season for all our sakes. Good win 2nite my help clear a few clouds of doom away, fingers crossed.
I was going to say that once again I agree with your sentiments Gunner and I probably would feel the dawning of a new hope coming if we end up with a good result this evening. However it is more likely to be a false dawn unless Arsene shows he can change his style and adopt a more flexible approach as opposed to steadfastly sticking by his tried and trying policies. The stupid wages policy of paying young players good salaries and holding back on top players I understand is his doing. The youth ' only ' policy is a big fail for a number of reasons as is the lack of a defensive strategy and absence of Plan B. Then there is the risk taking that ends up costing us. Actually the more I think about it the more I find I would just like a new chapter at Arsenal. We've been on this same page for years and while most of us had stood by our manager in the hope that his vision would be fulfilled it's quite obvious that the heights of Arsene's crusade tends to end by the close of February or put it in another way, it only has a 70% chance of success leaving us with a glass that is 3/10 empty. Not all of our beloved club's ills are down to Arsene but I cannot see much change in the areas for which he is responsible. I don't want Arsene sacked but when the opportunity arises, he could go gracefully so we can all remember and thank him for the great things he has done and brought to our club.
I hear ya mate.. I think slowly but surely most Arsenal fans are perhaps sadly coming to said conclusions, this year looks like we won't have to worry about second half season collapse as we can only get better from the muck we have played this season. If we scrape a top 4 place that will count as a victory for Wenger and the board, it will be of some worth to us fans but not really where a club with 13 League titles should be aiming for. I appreciate the game has moved on and we are at a disadvatage financially but I think this has been overplayed and we are the makers of much of our own problems. Change may be inevitable and necessary to move forward. Let's start with 2nite anyway and then ffs a win over that stubborn Bolton side, they always give us a time of it..
Who will replace him, Name me a manager that can spend £40 Mil on 1 player and offer him only £60K a week ? where he can go to Man C for £200K a week ? The Board is destroying us, its Wenger that is taking the flak...... When Dein was at Arsenal we succeeded...in August 2007 he was pushed out....what have we won since ? Remember 2004 - unbeaten 2005 - FA Cup 2006 - CL Final 2007 - League Cup final Then he goes and nothing, nada, ziltch..... Also our transfers became kids and old men on a free.... Its the Board that is doing this and the more we pressure them the better it will be for Wenger and our beloved Arsenal......
So the lack of any plan B, shambolic defences for years, buying youth for the cost of experienced solutions, and picking jokers week-in-week-out is the Board's fault?
Oops didn't see you there Tuffers please log in to view this image Yes I'm aware Martin wasn't asked to go. I like the man and recall him back in his Forest days. I even hated it when we beat Villa when he was their manager. My preference for Gus Hiddink is that he'll get the problem fixed quickly though I appreciate Martin is more of a longer term prospect.
it is threads like this that make me think what a pisspoor mess the arsenal are in. aw will prove to be the saviour of the gunners alongside his squad, just watch out for the next 5 games, count to 10 and then judge. come on you reds, wake up and smell the coffee
Losing a 4 goal lead tonight a la Newcastle would lead to Wenger going. As for Mourinho, he would ensure Arsenal would lose a lot of money, if nothing else. He needs shedloads of cash to succeed.
Murinho is definitely no way Jose. Let's see what happens over the next 5 EPL matches. If we get 3 wins or 9 points in any combination he'll survive. Actually 2 wins, 2 draws and a loss would see him continue. If we come away with less, then the pressure will begin to mount and I don't see how he can make a case for staying. I think the decision has to be taken before the end of November to give jus a chance of netting 4th place. Without CL next year it will be all too miserable.
