bruces interview told me everything about tonight … he didn't believe we could go there and win. I think he went there thinking we are 5 points clear a draw will do and the plan failed.

Joelinton and Almiron are proving to totally ineffective at present and we must have a change. On one occasion Maxi broke away down the left only to find no other Newcastle player anywhere near him, so it was wasted effort. Nothing to lose. Dubs had a decent game to keep the score down and time after time we allowed them as much space they liked down the flanks.
Can we not use the tremendous work rate of Almirion in a deeper position running in on balls, just maybe more effective.
Bruce must get his finger out quick before we are dragged back into the bottom 3.

To be fair we will need Carroll this season, only chance we have of Brucie ball yielding any goals from open play

Where exactly are you expecting him to find these brilliant CM's to bring into the side? It's plain and simple we don't have the personnel in the middle of the park.

I think the sad reality is that aston villa are a club heading for top 6 over the next few years , the owners and even the manager make n9 secret of that intention, they are the 3rd richest side in the league and have better players all over the pitch .... put all that together and the fact we were away from home at a tough away ground at night and it makes more sense ...

    Simply out spent

Next season sheff united will have saudi owners , leeds qatary.. every season it gets harder as clubs simply pass us by ...

Nufc is finished as a top half club and soon finished as a prem outfit ... just a matter if time

    Thats the big picture

    The small picture ?

Its just one game and we are 5 points clear atm and we still have s good chance of staying up this season .

No knee jerk reaction from me, we shown the opposition too much respect, simple as. Clearly set up thinking "They're a good side, we can nick a goal on the counter." If Almiron could score goals, we would have been 1-0 up very early and the game would have been very different.

I don't think the idea we went to Villa with was actually wrong it makes sense on paper, it worked against West Ham, but the execution was lackluster and shown a complete lack of commitment. We have a talented squad and a competent enough coach for me to say we should be safe this year but these lads need to ****ing turn up to every game and not think some matches are just a laugh.

The problems of Joelinton and Almiron are clear to see now. Apart from Joe almost never being passed too he doesn't hold the ball up well and Almiron was a waste of money. I prefer what he does now under Bruce in the terms of tracking back working hard for the team, but if Rafa thought this lad was a permanent CAM for us he was having a laugh. There's probably better goal scorers in the championship we can buy.

Move on and see if we can grab something against city. <laugh><laugh><laugh><laugh><laugh><laugh>

I think you're looking at the problem wrong, in terms of Almiron and Joelinton. When we have Shelvey apart from the odd saunter up the pitch, he effectively leaves us with 6 at the back, Hayden makes 7. So we're, as I've said before, playing 3 attackers against 4 or 5 defenders. The added problem of this is even if it's 3 vs 5, the opposition have 5 players they can leave further forward, meaning the opposition keeps the ball far higher up the pitch and simply doesn't need to leave big gaps to exploit. Besides which, we're not even scoring from the counter-attacks, so why the **** do we keep trying to? We score at the moment from set-plays. So nothing at all is working as it should.

I think we need a complete re-think and either need to go 4-3-3 or a 4-4-2 diamond formation. We'll need to bring in defensive fullbacks over Yedlin and Willems, then we'll need to play Almiron in his correct position - either top of the diamond to carry a threat, or left a front three.

Dubs; Krafth, Schar, Lejeune, Dummett; Hayden (dm), Longstaff, Willems; Almiron; Carroll, Max.

I'd go with Willems on left side of a midfield 3 or diamond, Longstaff on the right. Put some clout in the middle. Then I'd have Almiron deeper to be available in the hole, with Max playing off Carroll (give Joelinton a break).

We've gotta do something. Not this weekend - it's 9 at the back and pray they have an off day. But it needs changing.
