They also said that with us having sold off all our best players year after year, they were amazed that we could still perform like that -------------------------------------------- I've stopped dining out on that one. We've lost key personnel, but our recruitment has been a bigger issue. Look at Leicester, they sold Mahrez, Kante, Maguire ect, but they have continued their plan very well. Our blue print was supposed to be able to deal with departures, but it hasn't. I never expected miracles, but I did expect competence.
Leicester lost Kanté, Mahrez and Maguire over three seasons. We has a mass clear out of all our best players, season after season. Even after narrowly missing out on relegation two seasons ago when no one wanted our players, we still sold the best (Tadic). There’s no comparison between the way we reacted when the big money clubs came calling, and the way Leicester have.
If you're a 'cup half empty' type, then the positive elements of that performance are irrelevant compared to the dropped points. If you are the 'cup half full' type then the performance is a good reason to be optimistic despite the disappointment of dropped points. Ultimately, i think it's a game that it will be easier to judge 6 weeks from now - either another example of throwing away points, defence frailties and profligacy in front of goal, or we will look back and see it as the start of rediscovering some passion, a better tempo and a good formation. For what it's worth, i'm in the latter camp.
Exactly. We got a point at Arsenal, which compared to some of our recent results, is most definitely an improvement.
A bit of discussion on Sky Sports about the JWP penalty, but no clear conclusion reached. There were 1 Saints and 5 Arsenal players encroaching apparently, so the missed Penalty may have been retaken if JWP hadn't scored on the rebound? Another contentious area, but I guess we got a fair result from it.
Yes ! It was my wedding anniversdary yesterday but I am back now and doing some notes for this next winning match thread !
