... and how far short of a team are we?

Donald has said we're looking at bringing in 5 players and Parkinson has experience and knowledge of this division. He should know who's going to improve the team and which players should be peddled. We look a mess, at the moment, but these are the same players who won 5-0 recently and beat two PL clubs. Surely this season isn't lost in November, the right signings could and should make the difference.

Good enough for this level imo from what I've so far seen live:

    Both keepers
    O'Nien
    Hume
    Ozturk
    Willis
    Power
    Dobson
    Watmore
    Grigg
    McGeady
    McNulty

I don't rate Dobson at all to be honest. Averages a goal every 30+ games, wanders around the pitch, is slow with the ball in terms of getting it under control and moving it on and his passing is largely dubious at best. Hits the occasional decent crossfield ball but too often makes a pigs ear of simple passes. Rarely influences the match in a positive manner imo.

Don't think there's much between Lynch and Ozturk so I'd probably add him and probably also Gooch largely in the hope that he can recapture his form from early last season.

McGeady is still living off his reputation for doing a few step overs in the SPL. Not good enough these days.

I've seen better players than Grigg in the Sunday league.

I have a heart attack every time Ozturk does his WWE grappling routine when the opposition are attacking.

Sign five players in January, another five in the summer. That's nearly a brand new starting XI. But I don't trust our scouts to sign anyone decent so I'm not getting my hopes up

Yes, I'd forgotten about Gooch and he could definitely contribute if played in the right way.

Same with Dobson imo, should be playing box to box in a faster moving set up ....

.... seems to be very nervous.

We're lacking a real captain imo and the younger players are suffering.

I'd add Gooch, Lynch and De Bock to the list although with De Bock it's only based on one game and I've not heard rave reviews about him since so not too sure on him.

In this form Grigg isn't good enough to play Sunday league and he's been like that since we signed him so he needs to go.

Two new CFs, an attacking midfielder and a RB would be enough but the more we can improve the better.

The captain thing is a strange one given that Willis, Leadbitter and Dobson just off the top of my head had all captained their previous clubs.

The team also has plenty of experience with a lot of them having played a decent amount of games and some of them at the highest level. So to see so little leadership is strange.

I'd have thought that Leadbitter, if nothing else, would be a leader on the pitch but there's nothing from him in that respect.

It's a big problem that Ross started when he made Honeyman captain, huge mistake.

He compounded it by standing motionless and silent on the touchline.

We need a Stokoe-type figure to ride in through the mist. We won the cup with the same team that were on its knees before Stokoe arrived, roughly the same time as now.

It's simple we need goals....we are not creating chances...and the few chances we create Griggs missed them.

Personally I would leave the defence alone and look to offload, Griggs, Mcgeady and sadly Leadbitter.

We need two pacy strikers and a creative midfielder

Dobson, Power and 09 are keep...also

Gooch and Maguire are play when on form only (they can blow hot and cold)

Also young players, Kimpokia, does he need more air time plus one or two others

I have been trying to think of positives from yesterday's game but struggle to...

Your list is about right for me, reservations about Dobson but he shows glimpses. We are just desperate for a bit leadership and pace. Arguably our best midfielder plays right back, I’d have Onein, Power and Dobson in every game they are available.

Whatmore should also play as much as possible, yes we all know his touch etc can let him down but his pace will always cause issues for teams. A right back, couple of attacking players with pace and if possible a forward. Easier said than done though :afro:

Lynch was atrocious yesterday. Probably completed more passes to Coventry than us.

Maybe those are the best of a bad bunch
However the others can go and never play for us again
Then we need at least 5 additions to be first team player
    Strong defender
    Attacking midfielder
A striker who can play football
    Tricky winger
    And quality utility player
Will this happen and will they walk into the team
    We shall see

The lack of leadership on the park is massive. Leadbitter is made for it in theory but the physical decline he’s suffered over last 3 years is staggering.

I said the other day the only players I’d definitely keep are Willis, who I really ****ing like, O’Nien, as much for attitude and effort as any real ability, and Hume.

Gooch, Lynch, the 2 keepers and Watmore are capable. Gooch should be creating a lot more.

I love McGeady, but grudgingly I have to agree that for all his ability he’s destroying the flow of any moves out wide. If he can’t or won’t play 10 then he can’t be an automatic choice.

I’m sure we weren’t the only ones after asking ‘can Kimpioka do a Maja’.

He’s got to start Tuesday, we have to exhaust all options, we need points before January.

    Can Gooch play as a 10 ...

... he's energetic, has a shot on him and can beat a player as well as having a good range of passes

If he'd avoid being caught in possession, and get his head up, I'd say he could do a job there.

He's not quick enough to play out wide imo but he does have the stamina to play for 90 minutes.

Personally can’t see Gooch as a 10 but we have to try things. I actually think he is better wise the issue is he sometimes beats his man and takes too long to decide when to cross.

We really need to find something in an attacking CM aspect as we have nothing coming from there.

Could try Aiden, Gooch. We have to try things. We are so poor at the minute we can’t keep doing the same thing.

Tuesday is tough. They are a better side than Coventry in my opinion despite league positions.

O9 and Dunc on the right side. De Bock and Hume on the left side. Settled defence with pace on the wings.

    Burge
    O9 Wiillis Lynch De Bock
    Dobson
    Dunc Power Hume
    McGuire (or new signing)
    Benji. (or new signing)

The goalie is sorted. Back up is OK.
The defence with Ozturk is sorted
Midfield. A big physical lad and a pacy lad should resolve our problems there.
    Forwards. Similar to midfield.

Leaves a decent bench with Gucci, McGreedy & new signings.
