I sat in E3 for the first time in a long while on saturday, despite the atmosphere still been **** there was a distinct presence of arsehole about my immediate vicinity. One lad threatened to "deck me" for singing how **** must you be we're winning at home, before spending the rest of the game talking to his girlfriend.

I use to love home games, don't get me wrong I still do but the atmosphere is awful, where the hell is the logic that our 1000 regular traveling away clan easily out perform our home crowd. It's utter madness.

I agree. But isn't that the same everywhere you go though? I mean, everyone says standing will bring back the atmosphere, but the Peterborough crowd were dreadful. I didn't hear a peep out of them all match.

Atmosphere will come if the singers are up for it and have been put together, like on an away day. At the KC and most grounds they're far too spread out.

Very few good atmospheres are unorganized. Surely in the 70s, 80s and even beyond at Boothferry Park, there used to be a 'conductor' type who led the chants among the Hull fans? This is how the continental ultras do it too with a capo as they call it, and the other English clubs who have a decent range of chants tend to come up with them on the websites and when supporters groups meet in their designated pub. In the old days before Sky ruled football (not that I was around then), Leeds fans were 'led' by a bunch called the Kippax, and later on by a guy called Collar.

If you reintroduced terracing, 90% of stadiums' atmospheres wouldn't improve hugely, but if the fans were orchestrated, it really, really would. Even without terracing, you can still get a half-decent atmosphere. That's why the numbers in the Ulltras group are important if it's to succeed. They should really get a website or some pub meets too so everyone gets to know each other and chants can spread easier.

Don't know why I just gave such a long-winded response about the fans of a club I don't support! <laugh>

We have a few chants that are lead by a conductor then the rest join in.

Think with the Ultra groups you'll still get the same cross over chants, like you get now and you'll get even more European influences in song choice. Can't be arsed with drums, goal music or even ****e chants like "we love you, we love you, woah woah" or the ****in poznan.

I agree with you about drums and **** (would have given you some rep if it still existed!), but I mean with the capo type, they're actually stood facing the fans rather than the pitch when they start the songs, and in Europe they have a megaphone or microphone so that thousands can hear them rather than hundreds. I imagine at the KC, it's just another fan facing the pitch who's doing it. At Palace last season, they had three or four lads who all took it in turns to do this 'capoing' and then returned to the stands to watch the game after their 'shift' was over.

If the Ulltras could get permission from your owner (who I gather is a supportive sort of chap anyway) to use that sort of equipment, that should be something they ought to look into. If the Ulltras actually got a website and had a membership scheme, they could raise some money to do banners too. Would be nice to visit the KC later this season and get some proper banter from your fans. <ok>

I don't know who the Ulltras are, or how many of them there are, I just agreed to post their statements on here, just as the other Admin's/Moderators have on all the City boards.

At away games there a bunch of lads that get most of the chants going, but at home games they're all spread out and apart from the odd group in E1-E3, it's difficult to get anything going. I know the club are completely on board with the idea, if they can shift the away fans to the North East or North West corners(subject to Cooper and OB actually getting on board with the shift), then the North would be the singing section, ideally with unreserved seating and with stewards told not to make people sit down.

Frankly, there's a long way to go, but at least someone is trying and for that, they get my support.

The idea of the Ulltras sounds cracking, atmosphere seems to be a dying thing in football (just like it seems to be slowly turning into a non-contact sport). The atmosphere really needs a boost in the KC instead of the South East corner singing "we're south stand hull city/we're east stand hull city" cos that makes me cringe.

Saying that, our stewards arent as bad as some clubs, Aston Villa seemed to be afraid to let anyone at all stand under any circumstances.

Wasn't too bad at some grounds, but I suppose thinking about it, it is a fair point, especially back in the Division Three and League One days, things were so relaxed...
