It appears that MM is postulating that one of the reasons our results are not what they should be is because our players aren't used to, or are intimidated by, playing in front of big crowds.
This from someone who touts themselves as a PR professional. Someone who many were so happy was part of the duo who took us over because they were 'football men' and ( my favourite ) 'they get us'.
Everytime this salmon trousered dandy opens his yap ( especially since the investment was published) there is a torrent of 5hite coming out of it.
Like Donald he needs to pull his head in and keep away from matters football. Many fans had ( I'll advised ) issues with byrne but this joker beggars belief.

I think if you asked O'Nien he'd agree. Big step up for a lot of these players and when they feel the almost tangible weight of expectation from the crowd they can't all handle it easily.

It's easy to bash Methven but at least he's willing to stick his head up and take it. Every time there's been a talk in with our supporters he's come across well which is saying something considering what a precious bunch some of us can be.

That has to be the lamest excuse gan

Half of the squad are internationals

Says so much for their mentality imagine if they were playing in the premiership

    40 50 60 70 thousand plus fans every week

    To me it's utter bullshit

Which half of the squad are internationals? I can think of this lot...

    McGlog
    McGlog
    Flanagan
    McGeady
    Grigg
    Gooch
    Watmore (U21)

The Norn Irish lads rarely make the starting line up and big John plays for a ****house Scotland team.
Mcgeedy retired and there is no issue with Gooch or Watmore being able to play with big crowds.

As for the majority of the rest, they'll never play premier league so how is that relevant. Getting used to a big club with big crowds at this or championship level is a challenge they need to step up to./managing. This time he's just saying it how it is.. what's wrong with that.

It's laughable how people take every little thing so seriously then blow them up into something huge.

We've all seen some players wilt in front of big crowds and commented on it, why is it so outrageous that Methven should give his opinion?

Surely people would prefer honesty above spin, thats the whole point of these talk-ins isn't it?

People are trying to outdo each other on negativity. Its pathetic.
They try to dress it up as passion and concern. It isn't. Its being a ****.

That's a very good point and is laughingly obvious.

The less bothered people actually are the more outraged they pretend to be.

Meanwhile the majority of supporters continue to support the club and hope for the best.

It's pitiful how any form of optimism is inevitably met with, "What are you drinking/snorting?"

As if supporting your club indicates a lack of intelligence or is only possible for drunks or drug addicts.

It certainly shows that the whingers see themselves as superior.

I do think the comment about crowds is a bit daft mind. I wouldn't blow it up into a big thing but our home form in front of the big crowds has been markedly better than our away form when we have often struggled in small, tight stadiums. If we were doing mint away and inexplicably looking less creative as if the players weren't expressing themselves at home I'd think it was a likely reason, but that is far from the case. We certainly looked no better at home to Gillingham in front of 8000 than we did against Tranmere with over 3 times as many there.

My concern about it is that I think they need to acknowledge the real reason we've struggled this season and that is not having the right blend of players and lacking pace and strength throughout the side. If they genuinely think it's fear of the big crowds I think they're focusing on the wrong thing and likely to bring in the wrong players again. That said, PP did also reference pace, strength, fitness, and runners from midfield actually supporting the front man, so hopefully it'll be in hand and it was just a throwaway comment at a talk in

I was there last night and the OPs explanation of what CM said is wrong and just made up tbh. picking up on the open and honest way Onien came to his door and wasnt used to playing in front of 30,000 as oppose to 6,000 from where he come from. I thought it was a pretty touching storey about one if a very few 1st teamers who uncatagorically give 100% on the pitch. They worked through it and onien now is probably the first name on the teamsheet in whatever position.....I dont get why some people feel the need to slate CM, he wasnt talking ****e at all last night, he came out with some good stuff, especially saying that we need 5 players in January, this they can see as much as us. The club can really do without the negativity tbh

But this wasn’t said in a spin of negativity at the fans.

Why are people making it out that way? It’s a ****ing viable thing, most of our players are used to playing in front of 3-4K only our fall from grace has changed that.

Of course it affects them, some sink, some swim. It wasn’t Methven having a go at the fans at all, it was him offering a more than valid reason that some of them can freeze.

Anyone ever presented to a large room of people? You **** yourself initially and then grow used to it.

    Same on a grand scale.

It's an easy answer to give and it's been trotted out since Peter Reid.

NE crowds have always been full on even when it was 14k against Luton during the Buxton years. There's been more than a few tears shed at at the Fulwell end goalmouth.

If anything the atmosphere is less intimidating since we left Roker Park.

That's a cheap shot tbh, your 'wind up comments' are becoming too predictable to have any effect.

I don’t think many (if any) of our current squad will ever get within touching distance of the Premier League.
