Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but if this kid is any good, his height would be a big plus for me, ever since I started supporting Sunderland as a kid, Ive always believed we lacked height, OK so Superkev being the exception, he was a giant and always will be, and more often enough was able to out jump anyone on pitch, and still probs can.

Steve Bruce is being linked with a £5m swoop on Nuremberg in the New Year for Czech international striker Tomas Pekhart.

The 22-year-old front man was at Spurs as a youngster but has made his name in the Bundesliga and the Czech Under-21 side, where his 17 goals are a record at that level.
Bruce is in need of more firepower following the surprise, and unwanted, exit of Asamoah Gyan and reportedly had scouts watching the 6ft 4inch striker in action in the Bundesliga last week.
Whether this leads to a move for the striker, who made his full debut for the Czech Republic in May against Turkey, in the New Year will depend on his continued progression and how the Black Cats are fairing in the Premier League.

I have a strange feeling Bill that we could be linked with quite a few strikers over the coming months. After the summer rumours and let downs I aim to do my best to ignore all links untill wee Davie says its on outside the AoL. Not even going down to Seaham Hall in January to look at the guest list.

A cousen of mine from Chester, was coming up for a funeral, thought he would stay in the Seaham Hall, as its close to the church, where the service was held, when he got the price list etc, we nearly had to bury him. As you say rumours, and a lot of water to flow under the bridge before the Jan window.

It's going to be another crazy window :S but it's a long way away still. Personally I want a quick, poacher type striker. Bendtner to win everything in the air to flick things down to the little man. Plus we also have two big lads in Wickham and Ji.

You mean like the story that won't go away........

Newcastle and Sunderland target Papiss Demba Cisse has signed a bumper new deal at Freiburg – but the Bundesliga club admit he is for sale at the right price.
The Tyne-Wear rivals were both keen on signing the Senegalese, who came second in the Bundesliga scoring charts last season with 22 goals in 32 appearances.
But Freiburg resisted the temptation to cash in on him, despite the striker’s desire to leave the club during the summer, and have now upped his wages in a bid to keep him happy.
Freiburg sports director Dirk Dufner said: “After many conversations we have found a good solution for both sides.
“He is now at the top of our structure. For us it was extremely important that he stays with us for another year.”
It is understood that, in addition to making him the club’s top earner, Freiburg have also assured Cisse that they will consider offers for him next summer if they are “In the region of his market value,” Dufner added.
Arsenal and Fulham have also been linked with the 26-year-old, who would be allowed to leave for around £12m according to reports in Germany.

What you guys need is a striker who will stay at Sunderland once he starts banging them in.

Look at players like Bobby Zamora who has stayed at Fulham. His form pre leg-break was brilliant. He still has goals now, and will score some important goals this season for Fulham.

The minute you sign a top striker at Sunderland, Niall Quinn has got them in the shop window. You can't win, because of what Roy Keane said.

Your team will be a stepping stone, you need longevity from a striker not 1-2 years. Trust me if Gyan had score maybe 5 more goals for you last year he'd be playing for another top Premier League team now.

Even your home-grown's didn't want to stick around...it's just weird.

Height is one thing we don't really lack up front at the moment - our 3 fit strikers are Bendtner (6' 3.5", Wickham (6' 3") and Ji (6' 1.5") - all good in the air and on the ground from what I've seen of them - to sign another 6' 4 striker would turn us into a Stoke style... Not for me

I haven't seen the lad play but I certainly don't want to sign a player just because of his height - if he is a good footballer then no problem but not simply because he is tall and good in the air - we have that already

I would like up to in for Sinclair at Swansea and the lad Michael-Smith at Brighton. 2 lads who are good enough and would leap at the chance to come here. I agree that these big names will only come to us to get somewhere else. Better we try and unearth a new Kevin Phillips than in for a bent or Gyan.

Both look good players Cest - Mikael Smith turned QPR down to play for Brighton - rumours were it was "First team football" but apparently someone close to him said he'd rather stay in the championship - all hearsay and conjecture mind you (just stuff I read on Twitter at the times of the transfers!)

And I'd rather we went in for a proven player as well - we may turn over a lot of ugly rocks before we find a gem - or we might not find a gem - it's a risk in Football - but we need provien quality at the club atm not hopeful ones.

Were going to have Scouts out watching every striker worth their salt at the moment so we get someone good in.I personally think Cisse is one for the summer rather than Jan especially with the ACN coming up. I can see Gignac being more realistic especially with Marseille's current league position.

End of the day we need a finisher/goalscorer.
