The night of the 1981 FA Cup Replay I was on a school camping trip at Theobalds Park. The teachers hooked up a portable TV to the coach battery and we listened to radio commentary. We must have run round that park about 10 times, waving our scarves and flags after the final whistle. One of the best nights of my life. I think Keith could have added a league title had he stuck around a few more years.
One thing he's done already is raise Spurs' profile. Headline news everywhere. Winning the PL as a Spurs manager is a monumental task for any manager. But a world renowned manager can raise the club's profile and if he continues his happy knack of winning some silverware, it will massively help increase Spurs' fanbase around the world. Spurs long term plan is to be able to compete financially on reasonably level terms with the richest clubs. If winning the PL now looks unlikely in the next few years, then winning any other trophy and having a higher profile around the world is essential. In that respect, Mourinho looks a shrewd appointment.
Plus excellent players will be prepared to give Spurs the benefit of the doubt and move to Tottenham. Tottenham now look serious. Also if the rumours about the owner of Amazon being behind this are true, then Spurs should be able to pay top wages.
Who said this after the WHL finale? Pointing to his head, when asked what it’d take for Spurs to take the next step in Poch’s revolution: They’re a fantastic side and it’s all up here. Ninety percent of any sport is mental. Like with Spurs temporarily playing at Wembley, when you’ve got 80,000 fans supporting you, it’s eventually going to come through, and they’ll find the confidence to do well. They don’t need much more in terms of players, it’s now mental. I feel that when they win their first Cup, there’ll be many more, and they could be like the great Liverpool teams of the 70s and 80s.
1.30-ish, gesturing to Tanganga, while talking to a coach: "He marked Ronaldo..." something. Someone's been doing their homework... Edit: I just realised watching this that Dier's our Portuguese player for Mourinho purposes.
Apologies for being so negative. I see recent posters have done their best to shine some positive light on this, and I admire them for that. This was the very last head coach I wanted Spurs to hire, so finding something good to say about it will take some doing for me. But I'll work on it. For what it's worth, I always favor taking a chance on the best young manager available.
Never in the field of human conflict have so many Spurs fans been so shell shocked! Well, not since last season anyway. COYS! I'm wondering what sort of welcome he will get on matchday...….?
£8m a year, apparently. How does that compare to Poch's most recent contract? It seems significantly higher but I can't recall the exact figures.
Think it was Poch who was on £8m a year, Jose rumoured to be on £15m. Second highest after Pep who’s on £20m.
You have nought to apologise for. This has knocked a lot of us for six. I spent most of the day wandering around the office aimlessly, imagining signings we could have made to turn things around under Poch. As I explained to my wife (who saw my reaction last night and assumed a close friend had died), this has been the equivalent of me coming home after a long day to find a note from her on my pillow saying "I can't see a way forward, maybe we'll see eachother again some day", going to bed heartbroken and waking up the next morning with her obnoxious, loudmouth friend who I've always hated, sleeping next to me and wearing my wife's pyjamas. She was much more sympathetic after that analogy. And, after a brief lecture about how this particular friend of hers 'Isn't all that bad' (she is), she made me a tea and sat with me, reassuring me that it will all be ok. All the while trying not to laugh.
I was listening to TalkSport for most of today, and most Spurs fans who called in seemed genuinely excited by the appointment. There were only a couple who went completely off the deep end against the appointment, with one idiot almost in tears, calling Levy a disgrace.
Lol! As if I would come to this board to find out how well my appointment has gone with you crazy fans!
Didn't mean to denigrate Keith....I actually sat next to him and his wife in the Galvin restaurant before the Man City CL match and congratulated him on how I had enjoyed watching his teams play.
Personally I think Mourinho is too good for some of our ungrateful fans who really should **** off with Poch and support his next project. We are not Chelsea fans with a bee in our bonnet about Jose and we are not entitled United fans who turn their nose up at silverware and relative success...Mourinho is a bigger pull than THFC and he has joined us and he has embraced us it seems. I hope our fans who plan to make his life a misery by moaning like ****s seriously **** off and support Newell Old Boys or like I said whoever Poch takes over next I’ll be pulling up the negativity if you think Poch deserved beyond the 6 years he’s had and Mourinho deserves hell from day 1
Just shows he really has done his research, I can respect that. Can’t work out though if what he says is “make him known” or “pick him”.
