It was an incredibly cagey affair for long periods at a time last night between two evenly matched sides. Ehmer was given man of the match but there was a host of performances that were exceptional at nullifying Sunderland's threats and as much as I hate to say it, credit has to be given to Steve Evans' side. 1. Brandon Hanlan - Brandon ran through walls last night and worked so so hard. Referee gave him barely anything all night despite Sunderland trying to (and failing) to bully Brandon all game and he deservedly got his goal. 2. Jack Tucker - What a superb young player we've got here. Fantastic skill from a centre back and kept a £4m striker in Will Grigg quiet all game. We need to tie him down to a new deal quickly. 3. Connor Ogilvie - Connor gave everything last night and looked far more accomplished in that left back role. Won everything in the air that came his way and took a battering too. Stuart O'Keefe worked incredibly hard as did Barry Fuller and they also need special mentions. Jakubiak was not so impressive however. On a side note I had the pleasure of sitting very close to the dug out last night in the so called family enclosure. There are signs up reminding fans to watch their language which seems redundant when you can hear every expletive under the sun that came from Raynor & Evans. They certainly haven't abided to their promise of reigning it in one bit. This included Evans having a massive go at the referee for not giving a goal kick despite the fact we had been awarded a free kick for a foul on Jack Tucker further up the pitch. It very much became a comedy sideshow towards the end and I was surprised at how lenient the fourth official was with them. Not particularly family orientated though so be a warning to anyone with small children looking to sit near the dugout.
Appreciate the imformative and interesting write-up mate, and that you saw improvement in the team. I gave an optimistic forecast of a 1-0 win to us, but was dreading the thought of them tearing us apart really. Thankfully home advantage, Sunderland's current misfortunes, tied with our on the pitch improvement all came at the right time last night. Good to know Tucker is still turning in good performances, the lad caught my eye straight away after the time Fuller got injured. You are right also in that we need to tie this lad down for a few years, unless we already have - hopefully the likes of Fuller muturity will stick around, to help Jack keep a sensible head on his shoulders. Tough tie up next against Doncaster (would have preferred AFC) - hopefully the incentive of a good third round tie, will be enough to motivate the lads, and Evans will surely want the publicity that it also brings. Yeah I know, Cardiff <cough> On a side note of publicity, anyone see the highlights to the Bromley v Bristol Rovers game last night, certainly worth a watch and few Bromley fans will be waking up today thinking they were robbed, we all know that past feeling as supporters of a lower league club against bigger opposition.
