Well, it's happened. Regardless of what side of the fence you were on there can be no doubt that the breaking news of Poch leaving has hit your heart. Poch gave us, especially some of the younger generation like myself (hey, I'm still claiming to be young, even if I do turn 30 in 11 days) some of our best moments as a fan and I'll treasure them for as long as I can remember. It's now a huge decision for this football club, to sack the man that many fans feel is arguably amongst our top three or four managers in history means that whoever his replacement is has to be someone brilliant because anything else would be a huge step backwards and even the staunchest of Levy fans would likely turn. I myself have generally been "pro-Levy" despite some gripes but I'll now firmly say if he ****s up the next appointment and/ or we get the impression the new manager isn't being sufficiently backed, then I'll happily take a ticket onto the Levy Out train. So... Who do you want as Poch's replacement? (will do a poll of names that've been linked or could be linked)
****in hell DH have you had this thread saved in draft form just waiting for the moment to click publish? Too soon mate, way too soon. I don't think I realised how much affection I had for the man until now when the news broke. I wanted him to succeed more than any manager I've seen. Absolutely gutted.
Whoever it is, history says they're bound to **** up. Whenever we sack a good manager, like Harry or BMJ, the next appointment is a complete ****ing disaster. Let's just get it over with quickly.
It is sad but it had to be done because the results and ‘vibe’ around the club has been wrong for nearly a year now
The bookies have had them too, but I’d be surprised if it was him. Can’t see either side being keen on that appointment
Me too..........and I don't like it. I always felt that we appointed AVB to **** off Abramovic, who Levy despises. Appointing Mourinho would have a familiar feel to it.
Would explain why we seemed to wait a little too long before announcing him, as it would guarantee he got the full amount of compensation from Uncle Roman That being said, there is a pattern to Levy's hires: the risky option usually pays off (i.e. Jol, Redknapp, Poch) while the safe options fail (i.e. Santini, Ramos) so on paper LAdPCeVB seemed like he would fit into the first category given he had something to prove after flaming out at Chelsea and we were looking to rebuild and he does deserve credit for the Sandro/Dembele pivot that's been the blueprint for our team ever since...but on the other hand he'll always be remembered as the exception that proves the rule
Ancelotti if it were at all possible. Great record, plays great football. Most of the others I either don't rate or don't know enough about(was Allegri in charge when we played Juve? wasn't too impressed tbh). Definitely don't want Jose, **** football, dodgy record in recent years, awful at improving players and operating on a budget. Eddie Howe would be my second choice but I've heard a lot of good things about Nagelsmann, not seen much of RB though.
Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister? Those two are getting Rangers playing way above their ability in the Europa League.
Maybe we should follow the lead of Man Utd and Chelsea and hire someone who played for us in the 2000s Robbie Keane's available...
