I used to watch the international games but it's overpowering now, so many competitions.

The football authorities have obviously never heard the expression 'less is more'.

The only one they seem to know is 'money is the be all and end all'.

Good morning your excellency. U21's then the Jocks, although its difficult to watch a match when, every 30 seconds, you keep looking to see how the lads are doing.

Absolutely correct marra, back In the day you used to look forward to the internationals. As you say though, cash is king now ...

If I remember correctly, we had only played 2 games this season, and then a bloody international break. How are teams expected to get into a rhythm, then its stop start for months on end...

Heyho Smug, at our age, we have to have something to whinge about.... :)

There are many things that are much better theses days and I embrace them.

Through the 70's and 80's we must've wasted a whole year of our lives driving around looking for floodlights at away matches ....
.... using that method we once ended up in the Boro docks looking for Ayresome Park.

Mobiles mean you never need to worry about meeting up with people, sorting tickets, finding the 'away pub' etc.

But some aspects of football have suffered by 'being improved'.

Wembley finals are all virtually identical nowadays ...

.... needless pre-match 'entertainment', identical orchestrated celebrations and booming pointless announcements, etc.

When we went for the Man City game the announcement that really stood out, for sheer idiocy, was when they gave out the attendance ....

.... "Thank you for your support!!!"

    WTF <doh>

The season that we Signed Adam Nonceson and Steven Fletcher we had a game called off cos of waterlogging than the international break so we didn't play and couldn't get the new signings involved for ages. I have actually enjoyed watching internationals more since Southgate than under any other manager sine Venables - mainly because he is, for the most part, picking players based on form unlike the likes of Keegan, Eriksson et al!

I totally agree re Southgate, I think he's improved the team big time and the team no longer picks itself...

My gripe Marcus is the timing of these internationals, if we had a winter break like most of Europe they should be played then. It's the stop start to the season that pisses most people off, hence our backlog of unnecessarily cancelled games...

Mate no argument from me on that. International breaks are a right pisser. Not sure how you incorporate the winter break though as the other countries who have it use it as a rest period for their players. It would likely cause problems in that.

There has to be a better way though undoubtedly.
