In this election there should be a '' I choose to spoil my vote as I have no confidence in the system, or any party or individual'' option on the ballot paper. They should be made to count and announce them

People died to give us freedoms. That includes the freedom to decide whether we want to vote or not.

If we become a second rate power, I believe it will be because we have become a country that is becoming less law abiding, shows less respect for each other. all me me me, thinks over indulgence in booze and drugs and crap food won't be a problem, and is less willing to make any effort about anything whilst expecting it all for nothing. Some wartime attitude , hard work , determination and pulling together and there's no reason why we can't put ''great'' back into Britain

Apologies. I should have said that I would always use my vote for that reason.

Or the EU has colonised us, typical as a colony, lots of money has been taken out of the country. Now we want independence and the ruling elite of the EU do not want us to leave and are making it as difficult as possible, being helped by the Uncle Tom's living inside the UK.

I am still going to vote Corbyn as he is marginally better than Bonko

Agreed, but they would, I imagine, also be appalled with those that choose not to vote.

I personally think that not making the effort to vote is an insult to those people who fought so hard for us all to have it. It would not be a surprise either, if those that do not vote turn out to be the ones that complain so bitterly about how things pan out afterwards. If none of the parties sound credible, spoiling the ballot paper is a vote.

Despots gain power because of people’s disinterest, ignorance, or belief that their vote would not make a difference. Without it democracy dies.

I think what you're really saying is that you just can't accept the result and are scrabbling around to find things to blame for people voting as they did.

The 48% weren't disenfranchised, they had a vote - it just didn't produce the result they wanted.

The only people that would be disenfranchised, if the so called Lib 'Dems' get their way, would be the 17,410,742, who voted leave and would then have their votes ignored, by the actions of a relative handful of sandal wearing, lentil munching, delegates voting to revoke Article 50 at their conference.

    Democrats?

    Don't make me laugh!

usually the case in anything that those who set out to do the least , are the ones who complain most about other people’s efforts.
As I alluded to before , a spoilt paper is only a vote if they’re made to declare the number of them when announcing the results .

With the debate about whether it is your duty to vote or not... would a different voting scheme change minds. Eg proportional representation so a vote for say the Greens might end up with more MPs.

From my earlier posts I have mentioned I am a leave voter and labour supporter
I also live in a constituency which is heavily Labour. Atm I will vote labour cos I cannot countenance Bonko.

If there was PR I might vote Green, cos I think climate change is an important issue right now.

As I was writing this somebody rang to ask if I would deliver some Labour Party leaflets

I don't think it's an insult, at all. I don't buy into the 'They died so we could vote' line. They died so we could have our freedoms, mainly. One of them freedoms is that we can choose to be whoever we want in this country. Do you turn out every year for the LGBT march in your hot pants, crop top and lipstick? If you don't, is that not an insult to the men who died so people can have that freedom?

True. "All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing " - or something like that.

PS. As the generator of a thread on who to vote for you appear to have moved to the role of devil's advocate
