Tell us something we dont know Nigel. Unfortunately the people of the uk dont mind corruption within their politics and certainly wont question it.
Quite. The man’s a ****, intolerant of views he doesn’t hold, and an arrogant twat, gobshite and prickbollocks.
If broadband should be a free to use public utility, as it’s central to our lives, shouldn’t gas, electricity and water be too? Why prioritise broadband over things that run our homes, keep us warm, help feed us?
I believe broadband is a relative pittance in terms of variable costs once the fixed cost of the infrastructure is done with. The same can’t be said for the others and it would encourage waste. I’m all for nationalising and where appropriate subsidising it.
Was uncertain whether I should have put this on the joke thread as it made me laugh https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/showbiz-tv/katie-hopkins-sells-1m-home-17270324
EU migrants face wait of five years for benefits in Britain Steven Swinford | Henry Zeffman | Francis Elliott, Political Editor November 16 2019, 12:01am, The Times UK politics please log in to view this image Low-skilled migrants may need to have a job offer before being allowed entry to the UKOLI SCARFF/GETTY IMAGES EU migrants who come to the UK after Brexit will be barred from claiming benefits for five years under plans to end free movement expected to be announced in the Tory manifesto. Boris Johnson yesterday suggested that he will set new limits on jobless migrants arriving in the UK as he pledged for the first time to lower immigration totals. The prime minister, who is expected to announce details of a post- Brexit immigration policy next week, refused to set a figure, however. Mr Johnson has pledged to introduce an Australian-style points based system which will prioritise those with higher skills. Low-skilled migrants are expected to be required to have a job offer to come to the UK.

took her time about it but she finally saw sense She was a 'rising star' in the Lib Dems before joining Labour - now Atifa Shah is Rochdale's Conservative MP candidate 'I know I'm going to get criticism, but bring it on' By Nick StathamLocal Democracy Reporter 16:49, 15 NOV 2019 please log in to view this image Atifa Shah is standing for the Conservative party The Tory candidate for Rochdale has rejected claims her recent departure from Labour and previous connection with the Liberal Democrats betrays "a lack of principles". Atifa Shah, who was recently revealed as the borough's Conservative candidate for the December 12 election , has been criticised by local Labour figures after her membership of the Labour Party only ended around three weeks ago. Ms Shah's wide political past also saw her described as one of the Liberal Democrats "rising stars" by former Rochdale MP Paul Rowen after she quizzed its then-leader Nick Clegg in 2008 - although she says she cannot recall if she was ever a party member. And, following the announcement she would be standing under a Conservative banner at next month's General Election, the 32-year-old found herself on the sharp end of criticism from two of Rochdale's prominent Labour figures. Trisha Ayrton - secretary of Rochdale Constituency Labour Party (CLP) - questionned Ms Shah’s integrity following her defection. She tweeted: “I don’t usually approve of criticism of one’s opponents as a political strategy - but to resign from one party and to be selected as parliamentary candidate for another in the space of 3 weeks suggests a lack of principles undesirable in any MP.” Coun Danny Meredith - a Labour committee chair - joined in the criticism, asking Ms Shah how the electorate could trust her, and highlighting the fact she had also retweeted a message from a fourth political group, The Brexit Party, in recent weeks. He posted: “What principles do you have Atifa Shah? The Tories are welcome to you. Do they know you might be in the Brexit Party next week.” But Ms Shah, a former Matthew Moss High School pupil, says while her resignation may only have recently been processed, it was tendered ‘some months ago’. And, commenting on the social media attacks, the management consultant claims Labour are worried about the challenge from someone from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) background. She said: “I think Labour is clearly worried, because I’m a member of the BAME community and everyone knows in Rochdale the BAME community has underpinned Labour’s success - that's probably why they've taken to social media. “We live in a time where politics is truly broken, parliament is paralysed and they are going to find there are more and more people like me who are starting to realise who they actually are and what they actually stand for.” She added: “I don’t really see it as criticism. I saw those Tweets and didn’t respond to them. As a BAME person to stand up Labour in a town that is traditionally Lib Dem or Labour is a brave step. “I know that I’m going to get criticism, but bring it on as I care about this town.” Ms Shah says she originally joined Labour as it was the ‘done thing’ in Rochdale, and she believed the party's incumbent MP Tony Lloyd would be a ‘safe pair of hands’ who would raise the town's profile. But she does not feel that has been the case - and has been left ‘increasingly frustrated’ by Labour policies she claims are ‘detrimental for the working class’ and ‘don’t encourage social mobility’. “It saddens me to see it (Rochdale's) stagnation, there’s no aspiration,” said Ms Shah. “We live in a global society where young people are becoming millionaires in a matter of months and people in Rochdale are saying you have to vote Labour because, actually, you are never going to earn over £80,000. “That to me is why you are not seeing any social mobility in Rochdale, if I can take up the fight for that I see it as my duty.” On Coun Meredith’s jibe over her retweeting of The Brexit Party, she says it was in support of a call to stop ‘scaremongering’ over drug shortages rather than the party itself - but confirms she is pro-leave. She added: “Of course there’s a risk with us exiting the EU in the way we will, but the opportunity far outweighs that. I think we have got to exit, the country decided they wanted to leave and we have to respect that - we have to get on with it.” Who can and cannot vote in the 2019 General Election next month? Ms Shah will be challenged for the Rochdale seat by Mr Lloyd, who recorded a comfortable margin of more than 14,000 over the Conservatives in 2017 and is favourite to hold the seat. Also putting in a strong challenge will be Coun Andy Kelly - the outspoken leader of Rochdale’s Lib Dem group. Coun Kelly - who is also the party’s candidate for Greater Manchester Mayor - is popular in the Pennines area and will expect to improve on his 2017 performance. Protecting the green belt is high on the agenda in Rochdale and the Green Party’s Sarah Croke will be hoping to tap into that possible vein of support. And Chris Green - not to be confused with the Tory candidate for Bolton West - will stand for The Brexit Party, a move which could dent both the Conservatives’ and Labour’s vote share. The General Election will be held on Thursday, December 12.
