Detest International breaks so back again with a weekend debate post with a few talking points.

    • The plight of he U23s this season sees us halfway down the table and getting beaten by teams we destroyed last season. I prefer to think of it as normal progression as the u23 team is now dominated by last seasons U18 players and new 16 and 17yo. It could be we let too many players go or transferred them? Were we right to do? We also have quite a few of last seasons u23s now with the first team and on top of that we played Derby the other night with half a dozen players on International duty so is it a crisis?
    • Transfer window opening soon and already we hear Orta saying we wont be doing anything. Is this to stop rumours or even a tactic to keep prices down. Hearing that if Kiko gets banned we may be chasing a keeper but Meslier keen to step in and in fairness he is a great keeper. Glen kamara story at £8m is still a thing?
    • James Milner is back in Leeds soon to do a book signing at Waterstones, which inevitably means fans calling for the old lad to come home.
    • Tyler Roberts seems to have impressed Bielsa and the coaches by asking advice and going to see Bielsa wanting to know how he can improve. He has started the last 2 games and seems to be causing a threat?
    • Noel Whelan seems to think Jack Clarke is on his way out at Xmas but maybe going back out on loan to Forest. He says Bielsa is struggling to pick him because he can only play wing and we have better wingers? I think Clarke can play up front myself and have seen him do that last season for the U23s but I have also heard Bielsa say that Clarke is progressing well and has improved?

Morning All, I think the right thing was done with the U23. OK it's great to be winning U23 games every week but if those players aren't going to be good enough for the first team then move them on and get others ready. A lot of the ones we let go went to Barnsley and to be honest they are not tearing the league apart, our ex U23 captain hasn't had a game in a B team in Spain. We will get promoted based on the first team and so this should be the focus. Those U23 good enough are moved into the first team structure those not good enough are moved on and the next generation given their chance at U23 level, until a decision has to be made. Makes sense to me or am I just a heartless bastard?

More successful Orta scouting. Where would we be without him? <doh>

think you really need to take your Chippy blinkers off now mate. Fact 1 Orta has uncovered some great young talent and Fact 2 no ody can tell if a young player will carry on progressing to the top level. Some kids just decide its not for them and pack it in and we had 2 of those last season. We also made a lot of money on many of the kids we moved on so as a business it was profitable.
We are also about to seethe breakthrough of kids like Casey, Cresswell, Huggins, McKinstry, McCarron, Stevens, Hosannah, Kenneh, Bogusz, Haughland nd a few more - watch this space.

Looking at the clubs like Wednesday who are about to be hit with embargoes and fines for cheating FfFP rules it now also emerges that Hull City will have a transfer embargo in January. They owe Barnsley £200k for the lad McDonald because he went down with cancer so have refused to pay the last instalment of his fee so the final £200k not paid

Dom Matteo has just undergone an operation on his brain after falling seriously ill a couple of days ago. He had a brain tumour and I hope everything works out for him. He is still in intensive care and has come the tubes and conscious but a long way to go

Not at all. Ill wait till I see the results of these signings when they are established in first team. And what ratio of signings that make it can be deemed a success. One in five, ten, twenty? How many has brought in over past three seasons and how many are in the first team? Just asking from aa different perspective, not based on anyone else's thoughts, just mine

Hope he gets a full recovery, depending on what level the tumour was, will determine the quality, longevity of life for him. The countries fastest , growing cancer, more under 40's die from brain tumours than any other form of cancer, there as been a 100% increase in under 19's dying from them in the last 10 years yet still only 1% of all cancer funding goes toward research into this area of the disease.

maybe you need to stop telling people what they need to do or think Doc. Eire is on the more cynical side of things, and let’s be honest you think orta, radz and bielsa all do sh*ts that smell of roses. There’s room for both ends of the spectrum, that’s what gives forums a balance.

Orta brought in a Sevilla style academy... at some cost with a lot of foreign imports. Part of this is talent farming to pick the best, harvest and sell on the rest. But how Many of the imports have made it to the first team squad?

Has Radz publically recognised that they spunked too much cash in year 1, that didn’t bear fruit, and that it’s hamstrung ability to spend since? Yes he has. Did numerous people, myself included warn of this? Yes we did.

Even if we accept the premise that the ‘business was profitable’ it’s irrelevant if it was the wrong strategy for the business at the time.. it tied up capital and resulted in a fire sale clear out in the summer. In balance you can also say ffp contributed but the rules were known.

Transfers are always hit and miss - buying kids for the future is always hit and miss. But Orta’s record is patchy. You can quote that x got sold on for a bit more than we paid for him, allegedly, but you don’t factor in cost of purchase, cost of sale and salary paid while they contributed diddly. Orta hands round long term deals like confetti and it leaves a lot of people wondering why.

Football, as life in general is shades of grey. The club is in much better shape than it has been, so credit to radz, orta and bielsa... but none of them are above reproach/critique. Orta’s biggest contribution by far is helping get bielsa... he deserves huge credit for that.). But Orta also gave us TC, Heck and a load of unsuccessful punts on long term contracts before bielsa.

Obviously Cardiff have tired of hoof ball and have looked to replace Colin the dinosaur with a forward thinking, progressive connoisseur of the beautiful game. <laugh><laugh><laugh>
