    Anything that helps the poor Spuds out at this uncomfortable time should not be dismissed lightly ... without VAR they might now be chasing Norwich <whistle>

    Offside decisions can be easily improved ... clear daylight and benefit of 'limbs' to the attacking team ... unfortunately, such an idea is far too much like common sense <ok>

    This ^

    They’re missing the entire point of why the tech was brought in ffs. It was brought in to eradicate the ‘clear and obvious’ refereeing errors that we had to live with and that affected results.

    In terms of offside, that’s a player being obviously offside and it being missed by the linesman and referee. The way it’s being used is quite simply wrong. The offside rule is to stop the attacker gaining an advantage by being beyond the last defender, if you’re having to draw lines on a screen and you’re still struggling to see it, then there isn’t a ****ing advantage! Bin the lines, not the tech, the VAR official checks the replay with the naked eye and sees if there’s a clear and obvious offside, if the answer is no, then goal given. It should take one replay to see it, and about 30 seconds max.

    I haven't read any of the comments yet but will give my view.

    I've been going to football matches for over 40 years, I absolutely loved the game as a lower league supporter and the tradition that surrounded it. However, sadly I don't love the game anymore. It would take too many hours in the pub to explain why.

    I have a simple take on life, that one rule always leads to another until you get to the stage where you have erased tradition. Tradition that had held firm for over a 100 years.

    Technology, I didn't want and I don't apporve of it, I'm so glad I support a lower league team. Part of that tradition I loved was 'we woz robbed' after a game. It created much banter and rivalry between fans. But we are no longer fans, we have become customers.

    This is a comment that I saw yesterday and will requote;

    Football fans as customers have been used and abused by a massive shop that opened in 1992. Sky & BT have become a cartel which is impossible to break. It allowed itself to be prostituted by the pimp that is Sky ( BT etc ), in pursuit of money.

    The technology at it's worst was meant for the goal line, yet in the next breath it's taken over the game and until suppporters stand up and become vocal against it, it will continue to destroy what's left of the game.

    Some fair points Babs ... particularly in regard to Sky etc ... but technology itself is not the architect of ruining the game 'as we know it' indeed it should ensure that the game, as intended (the rules) (not some faux nostalgia including such gems as 'the ref will let you get away with the first one' even if you crippled a player) are as closely adhered to as possible.

    Rugby Union has been around since the 1820s and the technology has not ruined it ... it has been embraced and used sensibly. If football can also do that then the game will benefit IMHO ... but currently, even I would bin it if they continue with the farce that these incompetent fools are insisting on.

    Indeed. Rugby has chosen to ruin itself by requiring ten days for every scrum instead.

    Id say yesterday's call that went against Sheff United was exactly like the call that went against Son when we played Lesta

    Now I know I'm biased ... but the failure to give a pen yesterday when Soyuncu was pulled back was just b8zarre <doh>

    Should we make it a requirement that they are from Grecoland or Romania before being allowed to compete?

    The idea behind VAR isn't bad. The chosen implementation of VAR is bad.
