What a difference Ben White has made to leeds defence , captain calamity cooper can learn how to defend now from him , all leeds are missing now is a good striker we all said dweight gayle but we did not get him if leeds had leeds would be clear at top now , so we still need to look in january for a striker if the arab backers come in for a take over or a joint ownership leeds could have potential to be top 4 in premiership , your thoughts ?

I think you'll find Sniffer it's a combination of Dallas, White, Cooper, Berardi and Alioski.

A defence is a team, not a one man show.

Long way to go to become top four in pl and would take a hell of a lot more than a striker. Pl is like four divisions rolled into one and the top lot are a long long distance ahead of us. Two reasons, they’ve had 15 years of growth and strengthening since we were relegated. We’ve had 15 years of despite selling all our best have lost money every season. We’ve reached a position where despite the clubs size, our only realistic chance of getting in quality is through the short term loan system or 5% of our youths making it. Financial clout will eventually make the difference but someone needs to explain it to Rads

Last season we conceded 1.2 goals per game average. This season only 0.5 average and everyone in the 11 is responsible for that starting with Bamford. Bielsa uses moneyball data which means if you have the ball in the opposition half they cant score. High press and pressure to get the ball back quickly and attack again. Play out from the back and try to entice them in because if we have the ball they cant score and lumping it up means it comes back faster so create space, move and pass. If you have high possession it should mean they have fewer chances

That's all well & good IF you can take some of the chances that come your way, goals win games, we have more or less plugged one end, we just need to score at the other more than we are.
    Good morning everyone
Still beaming about the QPR result,no fancy high possession football, just good old fashioned hard work from the team. sometimes that's all we will need.

It’s the comparative conversion rates that are killing us!

So, quick question to play 'devil's advocate'. Are we paying Bamford 30-35K a week to 'lead the high press for our defence' as his main role or to score goals as a centre forward??

We are not paying him anything.

The club is paying him to be a professional footballer, who is required to train multiple times a week and play for the team when selected.

By all accounts he is giving all he has to do that.

No issue here, please keep moving.

Agreed. If it wasn't a team-based game, we could just employ 11 strikers who sat in the box waiting for chances, couldn't we? Oh, ..... wait a minute! <doh> :D

I think he has to score goals as well JLA. His 10 GCSEs, including five A*s don't seem to be helping him much.

So the modern day striker doesn’t need to be able to score. Wow, the modern game really has moved on since I was a young lad

Also needs to be able to defend. Did they have to do that when you were a young lad?

Can’t remember rightly. Long time ago. Early probably simplified memories were of cooper, Reaney, big jack, all able to attack as well as defend, big jack well able to nod in a few corners. Midfielders Bremner and Giles excelling at both ends of field. No idea how much Jones and Clarke defended, like I say, can’t remember but they were outstanding goal scorers. How the modern game seems to have changed, sadly maybe
