Agreed, there are three other teams I would rather go down than the canaries, a good solid club with sensible long term football owners, a bit like ourselves.
Morning all. Overcast but dry currently, and likely to stay like that until this evening when rain and strong winds are expected to return. I watched some more cranes heading south this morning to over winter in southern Spain or North Africa. These are the stragglers now, often because the young ones are only just ready to make the journey. All part of the seasonal events, just like the boxes of chocolates with their wintery scenes appearing in the supermarkets. Have a good day whatever you plan to do.
Morning all. A lovely bright Sunday morning, although not very warm. I lit the woodburner last night because it was feeling a bit chilly, but after an hour was becoming rather too warm. It still feels warm when you are in the sun, but move into the shade and you realise that summer is now over. The outside plants in pots will have to be moved inside now just in case there is an unexpected frost overnight, and some of the shrubs that stay out will need to be wrapped up in fleece. So it looks as if I had better get on with it, although perhaps a coffee first. Have a good day whatever you are doing.
Morning all. Lovely bright sunshine ten minutes ago, but that has disappeared and it is now raining. Think it might be one of those days. I put the wellies on and went along the green lane to my fields yesterday to collect some more logs and found it underwater in places. Checked up on my six water butts and they are now full. There maybe a couple of dry days this week, but lots more rain expected. I went into one of my outhouses later in the day and came face to face with a garden dormouse. Larger than an ordinary mouse it has a partly fluffy tail while on a forest dormouse it is fully fluffy. We stood and looked at each other for a minute before it took itself outside. Guess it was looking for a winter home, so it might be back. Enjoy your day whatever you have planned.
We have Glis-Glis in our neck of the woods... the Roman or Edible Dormouse - listed as both vermin and protected at the same time. Distinguishable by it's squirrel like tail....
I have always wondered why there is only a like button on here (and on the likes of FB etc). Why can't we have a "don't like" button? If you don't "like", the assumption is that you are neutral? May be it is political correctness gone mad - woops wrong thread. Don't want to upset anyone do we?
Some sites that you can comment on do have dislike buttons, but click on a dislike one and your vote isn't counted. All very odd, and shows just how much you can manipulate public opinion.
Morning all. Currently dry, but light showers forecast for the afternoon. With the weather being what it is I am seeing less of my neighbours now. Come the really cold days in winter I might not see them at all for days on end. Before I installed the woodburner we did try to light the fire in the sitting room, but quickly gave up that idea when the room filled with smoke. At one time before the extensions this was the only source of heat, and the cooking was done there as well. It seems that even in the cold weather you had to live with the front door open to get the smoke to go up the chimney. My elderly neighbour lived here and brought up four children in the one room, and when they come to visit the front door upbringing doesn't seem to have done them much harm. Enjoy your day and keep warm and dry.
Morning all. A clear sky, bright stars and moon last night, so our first light frost of the season. Glad I had managed to get all of the tender plants in pots undercover. They said we might have mist or fog to start the day and everywhere is very hazy outside, not because of weather conditions, but my English neighbour has a bonfire. I hope that our friend Dave is ok. Not been around since yesterday lunchtime, which is unusual. Have a good day.
