Working as a landlord in social housing, having previous worked for a private letting agent and now being getting into being a private landlord myself, I can see the full spectrum. Private rented is definitely a rip of for the renter as it’s significantly more than the mortgage student letting aside but it’s why it’s such a money maker for those lucky enough. There’s clearly so many slum landlords as the tv show calls them like @luvgonzo ’s but it’s also a right nightmare to get bad tenants out as I find out at work as the law is very on the side of tenants. With deposits, they go to single claims as I remember from my previous job so are independently looked at. From my experience it wasn’t very easy for these landlords to wrongly claim the money at that stage as they get found out. Those who see the deposit as a pay day just do it in the hope they can bully the tenant into not taking it to that stage. The key for being a landlord is to have sustainable tenancies, you lose money hand over fist every time you change tenants
Students-****s. Lazy ****s....pro longing going to work. pizza weed, they also are scruffy ****s with no respect for others properties.
So what I'm interpreting from this thread: If you're renting, you might as well trash the place because landlords are unlikely to give you your deposit back anyway.
