As far as our parachute payment is concerned, that's no big deal nor been a factor in our summer spend. We've spent very little net on new acquisitions. In fact many of us see that as our real problem, especially when we lost our 3 first line midfielders, Gunnarsson, Arter and Camarasa in the summer.

Incoming Glatzel £5.5M, Flint around the £4M mark, Whyte, Vaulks and Vassell at about £2M each and Pack from you at an alleged initial £1M. Offsetting that, Zohore went to Brom for £8M and Manga to Dijon for £2M. That's a net outlay of only around £6M.

On top of that, your very own Bobby Reid went to Fulham on loan with an agreed £11M figure for completion of the transfer next summer.

I think you've actually spent more than us this year, though I believe you did get a good lump in for Webster and Kelly to fund it.

I find it quite extraordinary, when I see some of our fans knocking LJ & co for what they are achieving at our club.......Most, in fact probably 90% of the clubs in the championship have seen top flight football and reeked the benefits since we've been there, back in 1900 and frozen to death years ago.
Compared to most clubs in this division over the years we've had the least. Only these last few years have we become a bit more competitive on a consistent basis.
I think sometimes clubs get lucky some seasons, where as everything comes together at the right time. the team gels, gains confidence, minimum injuries, strikers on fire and so all of a sudden, top of the league and promoted......Norwich had a bit of that last season with Pukki.
I don't think we've played well in most of the games this season, it's not gelling as it should, but of course it doesn't help when a massive chunk of your first team are missing through injury etc and not forgetting most seasons selling top players......we're 6th (not sure how) and not in any relegation battle and still competing well.....not sure what there is to moan about........apart from RP, who still hates LJ for who he is and would rather eat pigs testicles than praise LJ for his efforts! :emoticon-0172-mooni

I think we had a surplus of around £10 m, it wasn’t meant as a dig at you or your club Sparky, as like you I don’t know enough about your lot to comment, RP thinks we’ve spent more than anyone else and despite most of our big money signings being injured we haven’t done well to be in the top 6, I think in his head we should be running away with the league.

I looked at the table after the weekend games and commented on our forum that from 5th spot down to 15th is covered by just 4 points - amazing. That's a real incentive for any club that can string half a dozen decent results together.

The New Year window could be decisive for any club still in touch with the top 6. Our recent experience in January window though has been abysmal, Madine the Year before last and Niasse from Everton last year on loan - what a plank!

Mad isn’t it , we are 3 points away from 2nd , or conversely 3 points from 12th.

    Latest Severnside Update ~

'Manager material' - The inside line on former Bristol City men Aden Flint, Marlon Pack and Lee Tomlin at Cardiff City

Word from over the Bridge ahead of the weekend's game

Bristol City head to Cardiff City on Sunday with the aim of being the first team to win at the CCS this season.

The Bluebirds have yet to hit top gear but only Preston have taken more points on their own turf this season, as Neil Warnock's side have won five times and drawn twice in South Wales.

But the Robins have only lost once on their travels so far and can take heart from that, as they look to consolidate a place in the top six.

Ahead of the game, we spoke to Cardiff City correspondent Glen Williams for the local view and to hear how those former Robins are getting on down the road...

How are Aden Flint, Lee Tomlin and Marlon Pack doing this season?
Marlon Pack has been the pick of Neil Warnock's summer signings. He has replaced Aron Gunnarsson in the heart of the Cardiff City midfield and slotted in seamlessly. Last Saturday, he was handed the captain's armband in the absence of Sean Morrison and Warnock has even spoken about him being manager material once he finishes playing. His leadership and calmness on the ball has been a welcome addition.

Lee Tomlin would be up there with many Cardiff City fans' player of the year. However his fitness issues continue to frustrate, with his appearances being far more fleeting that anyone would have wanted. The magic in his boots is a rarity in this Bluebirds squad and he is one of very few players who can unlock defences at will. He is slowly becoming a big fan favourite.

Aden Flint has endured an undulating time of it in South Wales. He started brilliantly and looked a solid capture at £6m. But recently, a few individual errors have led to goals and many have called for him to be replaced either by the returning Sol Bamba or Curtis Nelson, who impressed on the weekend. Having spent a pretty penny on him, however, it is unlikely Warnock will jettison him from the side just yet.

What's the injury news and predicted line-up?
The Bluebirds have something of a crisis up top. Strikers Robert Glatzel and Isaac Vassell are both sidelined with injury, while Danny Ward is suspended owing to his red card against Birmingham City last Saturday.

Captain Sean Morrison will also likely miss out after breaking his wrist in the South Wales derby with Swansea.

However, the return of Bamba last weekend provided a huge boost after such a lengthy lay-off.

Predicted line-up: Etheridge; Peltier, Nelson, Flint, Bennett; Pack, Ralls, Bacuna; Mendez-Laing, Hoilett, Bogle

How do Bluebirds fans perceive Neil Warnock currently with Cardiff's indifferent form?
It's a difficult one, at present. After the South Wales derby performance there were more vociferous calls for him to be axed, but that is expected after such a dismal display and defeat against your bitter rivals.

Many believe, however, he has enough credit in the bank and last weekend's resounding win over Birmingham City went a long way to assuaging the derby defeat.

Make no bones about it, though, this is not the start Cardiff City had envisaged and they will be disappointed sitting in 14th place.

The one saving grace is that their home form has been superb - they are unbeaten at Cardiff City Stadium in the league this season - so that will need to continue this weekend. A derby win will go a long way to getting the fans fully behind him once again.

Who is the danger man for Bristol City to watch out for?
It is unlikely Lee Tomlin will start, but if he does, he has been the man to carve open defences all season.

Warnock will not want to change a winning side too much, unless he is press-ganged into doing so, of course, so unfortunately I can't see Tomlin ousting one of Ralls, Pack or Bacuna.

So, if I was to pick a player out of those remaining, I'd have to go for Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.

He started the season poorly and struggled for fitness, which was a big disappointment because many fans believed he could really tear up this league this season. But, in the last two games, he has shown glimpses of that devastating form.

He could be the man to make the difference if he is on song.

I have said 'LJ has had more backing than any other City manager' - which is nothing like 'we've spent more than anyone else'.

And I've certainly never said anything about running away with the league.

You seem to mix up my 'dislike' of LJ with facts.

I paraphrased what you’ve said, I accept , but it’s the general thrust of your comments , that LJ should have done better with the funds he’s had, regardless many of his big money signings have been injured . If that’s not your belief then exactly what is your criticism of LJ, other than you don’t like him

Well as this thread is titled CCFC v BCFC, are we permitted to discuss both managers concerned? I'll pose this question for you......

Rome is hardly burning, but do you think Neilo is fiddling?

Colin is a wily Old Fox - wouldn’t be surprised if he was fiddling somewhere, but he’s so wily I’d be surprised if he ever got caught!

I didn’t realise there was a suggestion he has been. I’ve always thought he was straight if somewhat blunt at times , who knows , just doesn’t seem the type, what do you think?
