It's always said that the Select Committee system in Parliament is a most valuable part of Government but as far as I can see, three quarters of the time, it's just an opportunity for MP's who aren't up to being Ministers to spout the most outrageous rubbish without any come-back on them, often reflecting only the Committee Chairman's political views. The classic was that idiot Margaret Hodge when she was Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee. However, it's a Conservative I'm going to have a go at now, namely Damian Collins, who is chairman of the Digital, Culture, Media and Also Sport select committee.

He's had a report issued, saying that the EFL should pay "reparations" in respect of Bury FC's insolvency. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50302522 . We aren't told who the reparations would be paid to: it's the fans that have suffered and I can't imagine there's any sum likely to be paid to them that's going to make the pain worthwhile.

Now firstly, this drives a coach and horses through the company's directors responsibility to run the company properly. There's a whole library of law and regulation on that and that should be enough.

Secondly, what on earth does it say to those dodgy directors still out there but that they needn't worry about doing their jobs properly because there's an EFL safety net underneath them? That's REALLY going to help isn't it?

Women are demanding the same pay at international level as their male counterparts...political correctness going bonkers personally.

A few years back Wimbledon started paying women the same as the men....a total injustice....women only play the best of three sets...men the best of five....and personally some of the womens tennis is so poor and one sided....spectators should ask for their money back.....politcal correctness I think is getting out of control and is becoming just a joke.

I'm all in favour of equal pay.... once they sell out Old Trafford, the Emirates and Anfield every other week.

Just such a shame you continue to fool yourself that this is all Project Fear Plym. Regrettably, it isn't.

Have a look at the FT's article " British Steel’s cry of Brexit pain" of 19th May 2019. Hardly known as a purveyor of Fake News the FT, is it?

Does anyone believe that in the real world Boris and Nigel haven't seriously agreed some pact or other. Ye right of course they haven't. Why else would Nigel change his original statement and now think the deal Boris negotiated is the real deal of Brexit when it wasn't last week. This is being turned into a circus once again.

Those who are thinking green...ought to think about renting a Christmas tree and not sending cards this year, Charities have said.

Friends of the Earth recommends that the environmentally conscious wrap their presents in a scarf and send e-cards, while Wrap, a plastic waste charity, suggests swapping tinsel for ivy, fir cones, mistletoe and holly. The trend is backed by Dame Emma Thompson, the actress, who has said she intends to dispense with gifts altogether.

Emma Thompson might be a good actress but.....didn't she blaze a massive carbon footprint recently across the Atlantic (both ways) to go on a London march....wow that will be a huge mountain of prezzies she'll need to save to compensate.

Also don't Charities depend on selling huge piles of Christmas cards this time of year....sounds a bit like cutting your nose off to spite your face.

Frolicking on the margins............. the big issues are where we get our energy from and how efficiently it's used.

Without wishing to harp back to Brexit, the so called "payments to the EU" that the Leave newspapers gleefully gave as the reason fro British Steel's woes were in fact carbon trading fees. For anyone that doesn't know, any business among the big smoke stack industries that reduces it's carbon generation can "sell" that carbon through the exchange to similar businesses that are over producing carbon. It penalises the dirty and rewards the clean. Over a period of time, the allowed standards are ratcheted down to keep the pressure on. It's a powerful incentive to clean your emissions up. It's a great scheme that uses economic tools for environmental gains. I hope it doesn't disappear if and when we leave the EU.

Watched the England match tonight. Don't know why I watched it all as to be honest it was no contest. I couldn't find anything to get excited about.

Opposition was poor for sure: hardly surprising from a country with the population of Manchester.....

Still, can't complain about 7 goals at the right end. Not entirely sure how our defence will cope with more competent opponents though.

Leyton Orient have sacked Carl Fletcher after 29 days in charge and having had no opportunity to buy and sell players. Sounds like a dressing room revolt combined with laughable management by the Orient board, either for appointing him in the first place or sacking him now or conceivably, both!

Short time....no time to get the paper clips in line and the pencils sharpened...I referred to it yesterday on Autumn News....after he sign they won 4-0....three days later he took over the team and guess what....they've lost everything since...including against us.

Ah I missed your post, sorry.

Did a bit of reading since posting.... Orient have a Director of Football which seems to be a bit of an anomaly at this level and which always muddies the water as to what responsibility the "Head Coach" has. To compound that, Orient took the stance that the rest of the coaching staff were to stay in their posts, leaving Fletcher as piggy-in-the-middle, a situation exacerbated by the natural rawness at the club following the sudden death of Justin Edinburgh. It seems he was an isolated figure and it's easy to see why.

We must remember that although Fletcher was a hero during our own dark days when the club seemed to be on its last legs and nobody was getting paid, eventually most fans were glad to see him go. Nevertheless, it's shambolic of Orient to appoint someone and then sack him less than a month later,

I've said before....when Fletcher got sacked...he came out and talked to the press straight afterwards about the match.....and threw in at the end that he had just got the chop....he didn't need to face the press but he did....and I respected him for that....but as a manager....no thanks.
