I tend to shop at the other end of town so didn't realise. How the flip do you get upstairs then? That was the only way I knew
Just need to clear it of the Sky TV salesmen and obese families in RL lycra and it will polish up real well
Straying into politics a bit but it’s frightening how many shops are shutting or have shut, I think the government, any government, should be reducing the retirement age back to 65. Or lower. We need young people in work
Don't think this is politics but we'll give it a go... What bothers me a lot about shops/companies going into administration is that while folk are losing their jobs/wages and suppliers are taking their losses on the chin the administrators tend to profit from it. I know it isn't the administrators fault a company goes under and they have to operate sustainably but it somehow feels wrong.
If we are able to keep the debate as an economic one rather than a political one then there’s some fascinating research that suggests that working 4 days a week is more productive than 5 too. I haven’t seen academic, economic, research around reducing the retirement age, but it would be interesting to read.
I think they could do with a footbridge there as well tbh, if there’s no crossing there it could cut off old town - huge new Arco HQ being built behind it too so surely it needs something to get across.
I'm changing jobs for just that reason, I'm ****ed by Thursday. It may be cos I'm hungover on a Friday but I'm going with it's the jobs fault I dont do anything on. A friday Along the same point a mate showed me a post off Facebook, I don't do that ****, and a paramedic had said he's early 50's and a reasonably fit and healthy but feeling it a lot. But do you want a 66 year old paramedic trying to save your life at 2 in a morning when he can hardly read the labels on medication gotta make decisIons onthe spot and work out how much. To give you etc etc Cos this kid certainly doesn't wanna do it.
It's a dilemma. There are fewer jobs around full stop, more young people want them, older people can't afford to retire so they don't want to give them up, older people can still make a contribution to help young people get going. How do you square that circle? **** knows! The economic model that's 'worked' for the past 100 years or so is no longer fit for purpose imho.
Unforetunately the High St has massive overheads whilst online can avoid all kinds of costs. It said on Sky last night to expect a lot more closers as Brits are by far the biggest internet shoppers in the world !
And somehow the unemployment rate is the lowest for years, its not the lack of workers that's forcing shops to close.
Wrong type of employment though (for years under both main parties) Few zero hours a week and you’re off the stats
