The Russians make some beautiful planes, among them, the Sukhoi-27, known to NATO as the Flanker. Watch the two guys to the right of the film (light green jackets) at the 6:50 point. The pilot gives the plane a slight blip on the throttle.
See the guard on the nose wheel Cyc? Designed to stop runway debris entering the engines. Concorde would never have crashed had Air France installed these (it was an optional modification).
Two beautiful war birds from WW2. The Supermarine Spitfire and the Focke Wulf 190 were outstanding successes in the field of aviation. The best thing about this clip is the lack of crappy, background music. Who needs it when these two birds begin to sing? The glorious sound of the Roll Royce Giffon 12 cylinder engine combined with the guttural roar of the BMW Radial was brilliant, they didn't need the support of some filmmaker's bullshit. I love the way the pilot of the Focke Wulf "cut grass" at the 4 minute mark.
There's person on Youtube posting under the name Fight to Fly Photography, who has put a wonderful collection of well filmed old war birds. I'm no aficionado of this kind of stuff, but even for me, these were well known makes. The Storch demonstration was amazing. I love the sound of the radials.
Amanda has just brought in an injured fawn found at the bottom of a ditch during a country bike ride. Poor thing couldn't walk but it doesn't appear to have broken any legs. Think it's about 6 weeks old judging by the starting to grow horns. Very sweet and loving the fuss and is currently in one of our stables in a warm blanket and a straw bed. Been seeking advice on what to do. I think some animal rescue is coming to have a look
Well they aren't. They say it will be better off staying where it is. So we are having to bottle feed the little thing. Not too hopeful but will do our best. Problem is, we aren't really sure what is wrong with it. Vets aren't interested in wild animals (probably because they assume they won't get their extortionate bill paid). If it is saveable, we will save it and let it go when it's ready. Plenty of deer on our farm so shouldn't be alone. One stood peering at us from over a gate the other day
If it doesn't end well, the little fella can spend some time with his new best fiend ... the roast potato. Only joking mate. I hope it makes a full recovery. If I though the fawn was in really bad shape, I'd drop him off at the nearest vet, whether they liked it or not. Stuff 'em.
We have the little chap indoors now, laying on a nice thick quilt with 2 pillows. Seems to perking up somewhat. Discovered he loves bananas and apples mashed up in water and warmed up, along with grass shoots. Wouldn't be surprised if he's running riot in the lounge by morning
I'm afraid it is very sad news. The little chap passed away mid morning. We did have that little glimmer of hope but it always looked an uphill struggle as I think he was too far gone. We are fairly sure he died from deer tick paralysis which can attack the hind legs, then the spine and head and eventually kills them. We had found and removed 5 such ticks from around his genitals. If we had found him earlier, the removal of ticks might have saved him. There is no telling how long ticks had been present, or how long he had been away from his mother but we were obviously too late. We did all we could, kept him warm, fed him, turned him. Such a sweet little thing. Very distressing. Sorry it's not better news
An interesting post from about a week back on the Boeing 737 MAX 8 situation. The MCAS spoken about is the Maneuvering Control Augmentation System. (The probable cause of the downed planes.)
It looks like Bloodhound SSC is really getting things together. In her latest shakedown runs a few days ago in South Africa, she as taken out to 334mph. It took all of 20 seconds to get there. The stats are below, then two short clips. https://www.bloodhoundlsr.com/run-report-run-23-24-hst-2-3-28-oct-19/
Hot off the back of 334 mph run a week back, Bloodhound LSR today pushed the envelope a little further open when she topped out at 461 mph. Amazing stuff.
