Wetherby 15,40 Charlie Hall Chase Only seven horses. Backed at the beginning of the week La Bague Au Roi 4/1 (now 5/2) and 16/1 e / w for the KG. Also a double yesterday 11/4 and 16/1 to win both races. Waiting to see who runs in the Down Royal bumper.
Looks like a good opportunity for Didtheyleaveuoutto to turn over a new leaf at Ascot - preferred going, a track he likes, a mark of 135 and Geraghty not weighing him down. Looks primed for a big run Also Double Shuffle to run a big race for the resurgent Tom George yard.
Really looking forward to seeing INDEFATIGABLE at Wetherby. I think she can take a high order in the mares division this season. However, I know I am only here for the bumpers! At Ascot I dont think its as good a race as you might imagine. I like the pedigree and win style of SONRU(14/1) for Christian Williams. This is owned by the Melbourne Ten so I hope to see a bit of action in the market. The Ayr race is pretty average and I am taking a chance on a long one in the form of THE PADDY PANDA (18/1). Fairly closely related to Pandorama so that is a pretty good family. Local trainer Daragh Bourke has his small string in pretty decent order.
1.20 Wetherby - Oak Vintage - 11/2 He looks massively well handicapped. Will come on for his run trainer had 3 winners at the meeting last year some money starting to come for him will deffo go off fav
No time to study the form yet sadly so haven't decided on bets for tomorrow and looks like quite a bit of time tomorrow morning will be allocated to watching rugby and sinking a few pints. Good luck to Top Ville Ben who runs in the Charlie Hall chase tomorrow though. He s a full brother to our lad and does love Wetherby. Probably a no bet race for me and just a watching brief...
Looking forward to making my Wetherby debut today. Anyone in the White Rose got a weather update for me. Can take the cold but rain will be a killer. Tough but a quality card I think im still gonna play the angle of who is fit and firing in the early part of the season and who needs the run. Will have a nibble on Definitely Red in the Charlie Hall, Stayers Hurdle very trappy but fell down on The Worlds End for Mr George. Mr Kirkby sends a few with lives chances as well so a patent on his 3 will round the day off for me Good luck all
sorry but I’ve backed Def Red and The Worlds End in two singles and an EW double. I’ve also backed the mare with the boat name
Morning all...bets on early doors today on a couple of Nicholls runners... Clan Des Obeaux 2/1 over at Down Royal. Think he could be cherry ripe for this in a race Nicholls has targeted before. Ascot 3.20pm Adrien Du Pont 14/1 each way. Finished 4th in this race last season..has had wind surgery..Lorcan Williams takes a handy 3lbs off. Should be on the premises if race is run to suit. Good luck all and come on England!!
Becky sent me Silver Cassie ew in the first at Wetherby Kirby buzzing about lady buttons I've backed 4 of his on a lucky a few of which have already been mentioned on here... Stick ...out standing on Jack Valentine thank you sir Stay frosty Xx
This year’s Breeders’ Cup main card looks difficult for the raiding party lacking real star quality. They drew a blank on the Friday Juvenile card and it would be no surprise to see a Saturday repeat. Sistercharlie won the Filly And Mare Turf last year and I cannot see the European challenge resting it from her as none of the O’Brien family three can be relied upon; and although former Guineas winner Billesdon Brook comes in on a hat-trick, she has never won beyond a mile and she was beaten in a Pontefract Listed race three starts back. Neither of the French raiders look good enough: Villa Marina is an unknown on the ground and Castle Lady was beaten at Keeneland on fast ground last time. Fanny Logan needs a big improvement from her latest Group 3 romp at HQ. The European challenge for the Breeders’ Cup Mile can probably be narrowed down to Circus Maximus, winner of the Prix Du Moulin last time, and Jersey Stakes winner Space Traveller, who collected a Group 2 in Ireland in September. The home team looks strong with former John Gosden trained Without Parole now with Chad Brown, who also fields the mare Uni, beaten two starts back by Got Stormy at Saratoga when conceding weight but subsequently winner of the Group 1 First Lady at Keeneland. Got Stormy and Lucullan crossed the line second and third (demoted to fourth) respectively in the Woodbine Mile behind outsider El Tormenta, who remains a 16/1 shot here. With Circus Maximus, Without Parole and Uni all drawn high, this could be GOT STORMY’s chance to get her head in front at the top level. Normally one of the strongest races on the card for the Europeans is the Breeders’ Cup Turf; however, I am surprised that Derby winner Anthony Van Dyck is so short with the layers given that he has not won since Epsom. Just the Ballydoyle factor? Globetrotting Old Persian won the Northern Dancer at Woodbine and comes here in good form but the wide draw has to be a worry for a horse that likes to be up with the pace. Drawn just inside him is Chad Brown’s Bricks And Mortar, winner of the Arlington Million and, in my opinion, likely to continue his long unbeaten run and priced accordingly. In the Breeders’ Cup Classic finale, two of the better horses find themselves in the two outside stalls, which tempers any enthusiasm for Vino Rosso or Code Of Honor. Not far inside them is last year’s beaten favourite Mckinzie for Bob Baffert, who has only won the Whitney Stakes this term and was beaten by *****lian Groom last time. HIGHER POWER was third that day but if he can get out the gate here, he could repeat his Pacific Classic win (*****lian Groom third, Seeking The Soul unplaced) as most those drawn inside him are outsiders so he should be near the pace.
Red force one in the 2.45 ascot catches the eye for me, so steer well clear. Caid du lin is another to avoid. Gonna be a wet one.
Good Morning peeps High light of the day for me is the reappearance of the lovely Lady Buttons - my selection and obvious nap in the comp! Along with FP I have also gone with Caid Du Lin, the poor bugger, what did he do to deserve that? I also had an ew saver on Imperial Presence at 12-1. I think clumsily named Thebannerkingrebel is nailed on in the 2-30 at Wetherby, yet for some reason haven't included him in my comp entry but have gone with the two "Bally" horses in the next two races, Ballyoptic and Ballyandy. This is worrying me, as I'm scornful of these "coincidence" mugs double type of selections! At Ascot, apart from the 2-10 race I'm on On The Slopes, Jolly's Cracked It and Springtown Lake ew That should give you a few to swerve
Ascot going: good to soft, good in places. Yet the all the weather reports say it's pissing down at present and will be all morning. Got to be at least soft by flag fall surely?
