GOLDSLINGER 20/1 Stratford 2:50 Money pouring on this thing tonight and hails from a super shrewd yard.
Morning Trying these outsiders at Lingfield 12.50-Jumping Jack @ 18-1 1.55 -Gifted Master @ 11-1 & Blackheath @ 16-1 4.05--Altar Boy @ 25-1 1pt Win on each
Interesting little beginners chase at Stratford today. Linagar Oscar and Black Ops are pretty useful animals but on their chasing attempts have not really impressed. I would take Lisnagar Oscar to improve past Black Ops over jumps as the latter looked slightly regressive even switched back to hurdles last season. I like Mr Antolini but he is going chasing at nine and surely this is because he is too highly handicapped over hurdles whilst not quite good enough for group class. Mr Caffrey looks out of his depth but the lightly raced DOWN THE HIGHWAY (15/2) is an interesting alternative. On official ratings he has around a stone to find with top rated Black Ops but I think that one is flattered by his current mark over jumps. Down The Highway was 5.1/2L behind Lisnagar Oscar when they met at Chepstow last season but reopposes on 7lbs better terms. I think he is the one to beat but my selection is a winner over jumps having won a point to point in Ireland. Factor in that the yard are in great form and I think we have a bet. Unusually for me I am going to back him EW 2 places as whilst confident he will beat Black Ops I am not 100% certain of beating the Curtis horse. Observations welcome.
Morning stick The most interesting aspect of that novice chase for me is whether Black Ops Wind op has done the trick. He has been bitterly disappointing since his novice season but I think the yard has generally had a poor 12 months. I’d like to see Black Op put in a good display today and hopefully spearhead a better season for the yard.
Another try to find one winner at least after being on the cold list for some days now. Stratford 1.45 Tide Times ew 2.50 Goldslinger ew 3.25 Tanarpino ew 4.25 Black Tulip
Stick, that is why I’m not backing LO today, the Lavelle horse has always been one for chasing and I think if it is a natural then it’s going to test LO, who for me didn’t jump brilliantly on debut. I worry that something might get loose on the front today, Stratford is hard to come from the back at.
It does rather make me wonder mate, at what point did they decide he needed a wind op or is this just an act of desperation? Jockeys often report back that the horse made a noise, some of the more cynical among us think that is just an excuse for not having it in the right place at the right time. They kept him on the go until April last season and if they were running him with a breathing issue then they are pretty stupid. The yard is yet to kick into form this season with the RP reckoning that they are running only 29% to form. Definitely the real "interest" race today.
I reckon they will ride the Lavelle horse positively today and put all the others jumping to the test. Interesting little side fact. She also purchased the runner up from the Irish point to point that this one won. Old Rascals who bolted up at Wincanton in February.
LO?!? I had to rub my eyes as momentarily I thought I’d walked into that famous ‘Two Ronnies’ sketch. Am keen to see how LO gets on given his close hurdling tie in with my horse to follow for the campaign, Dickie Diver. Now there, people, is a novice chaser to watch. Cor blimey, not ‘arf…
Ok, my two penneth for today. 1:45 - This is an interesting novice hurdle, and I think we've got quite a few interesting horses for the future. The one i've back is the favourite Winter Getaway, who really impressed me 26 days ago when travelling like a good horse before what I believe is blowing up in the straight. The yard have had a few who have done that on seasonal reappearance and I think this horse was beautifully prepped for this race that day. What impressed me was the way the horse travelled, he didn't pull particularly and looked very professional. That I don't think can be said for the Rebecca Curtis horse, who did remarkably well despite pulling very strongly during the first half of his win at Worcester. He obviously has a good engine, but I worry that he will pull his chance away here. He was also quite green that day, and I think he is going to be a horse who continues to improve through his early career. We then have a Nicholls horse starting out, one that I haven't read much about and I think the fact he is 4s in the market suggests that he is probably a longer term prospect. I like Footloose as a future chaser, but he wasn't impressive last time out and is a longer term prospect. Then we have an Ian Williams horse who could be anything and Largy Nights who has moderate form which shouldn't prove good enough to win this race. I think 9/4 is fair on the favourite, and he is my first bet of the day.
Sorry old boy, Lisnagar Oscar!! So this race I agree with Stick in the main but the bet i've had is for Down The Highway to win without Lisnagar Oscar. I don't like the jumping of the second favourite and Mr Antolini isn't a horse I'd want to go chasing with.
Finally the 3:25 is a cracking handicap for a weekday at Stratford, and it brings me back to the day before the festival last season when I saw Timoteo demolish a field at this course. He jumped beautifully that day, and then followed up really nicely, and whilst he has gone up in the handicap, I hope he has another positive season. Today though I am really interested to see how many of these go. The one I like is Kings Odyssey who has so many good runs in the book and I think he is beginning to get to a winnable mark. It might be that today is a prep for a old boys race, but it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him put in a bold bid. On this race, how good would the 4 year old have to be to win this given the experience and competition in opposition? The good doctor would have had to work miracles with him, as he does with many of his horses. A cracking card at Stratford today!
mates sent me Star Archer 18:40 at Kempton, he has horses with Tim Easterby (hes sent me a few before and i would say strike rate is about 40%) brother Mick is confident of a place with his charge 25/1 at the mo Stay Frosty xx
Terrible run. Was well backed throught the morning went off at 17/2 in places. Ran nothing of a race very disappointing
3 years ago this horse was heralded as the latest ‘reincarnation of Pegasus’ and I can remember ‘The Weekender’, in particular, went absolutely loopy about him prior to Star Archer’s debut. The fact that he went off at 6/4, 4/11 and 2/5 for his first 3 races shows how highly he was thought of as a 2YO. Has won 3 races but has undoubtedly failed to deliver what was originally expected. Will tonight though be the turning point??? Certainly interesting.
