Richard Keogh sacked by Derby after refusing to take a pay cut from his £1.3 million / year pay following his injury in the drunken car crash accident .

Amazing.. the pay, the arrogance, the stupidity...he may never play again..
Take a 50% cut and sit on a 600,000a year pay check and recuperate.

Surely they have to pay up his existing contract?

I cant do links sorry, but it is being reported that less than a month after DCFC said they would stand by their captain after his estimated 12-14 month injury lay off after being involved in that car crash, that they have now sacked him.
It is also being reported this is due to him refusing to take a massive pay cut to stay at the club.
Just goes to show the loyalty shown by clubs to their players.

    Classy from derby as usual.....

No doubt he was stupid and unprofessional, as club captain he should have been far more responsible, but the 2 drunk drivers who left the scene of an accident that quite easily have killed someone are simply fined 6 weeks wages by club, ok they now have criminal records, but are allowed to continue playing whilst they sack the seriously injured passenger.......

Yep really classy and this is before the walking gambling billboard starts with them in January.....

There would be a very strange irony indeed if he actually ended up playing for us. Perhaps a good luck charm?!

He could be the guy to tee up our forwards for shooting practise

the two car drivers - who could have killed third parties or themselves are not sacked and yet the club captain is. Regardless of whether he should have taken his salary at 50% - it still seems one rule for the other adults involved and one for him.

It seems one rule for players you can potentially sell on and make a profit and one for someone you want off the payroll.

TR - I have just posted similar comments to yours on Beth's thread. It does appear one rule for potential saleable assets and one for others....

Merged, as we have two threads discussing the same topic.

I wonder what the Derby fans think of this? They've probably disowned him as we pretty much disowned Stephen Caulker. Wasters.

Don’t believe everything you read folks! I read the article and it’s full of lies. For instance, Keogh is described as a ‘defender’.

Sounds like a heartbreaking moment for Derby defender Richard Keogh...at least he's had experience of heartbreak before.

Actually, won't he just tee up the opposition forwards by rolling the ball out to them while screaming "Go ahead punk, make my day"?

I was listening to Talk Radio last night, and Jenas and his team were discussing the incident. According to them a press release from Derby stated something along the lines of "that the club will not tolerate anything which could bring harm to the club or to members of the public, and those found guilty would face appropriate punishment." I do not know the exact wording of the press release but from from was suggested yesterday, Keogh does have grounds to appeal He was a passenger in a vehicle so whilst (1) as club captain he should be setting an example, (2) should have known better than to get into a car with a clearly intoxicated colleague, (3) he was not driving what was a potentially lethal weapon.
Will be interesting to see exactly what Derby do next as they seem to have made a rod for their own backs
